You’re so very right. And this undignified collective display merely puts a cap on it, probably. These awful people! Not one of them has the sense or decency to simply calm down and stop their wholly unedifying displays of frantic self-preservation, let alone simply tell the truth. “He lied to me and I suspected he was lying at the time, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt because that’s what loyal friends do. I feel my trust has been abused, but I must take responsibility for my own poor judgement in this matter too. And for that I apologise.” Is it really THAT difficult?
