  4. stephen wedderburn : It is required, by International and US Military law, that you cannot stand by, while a crime is committed. Obviously, the commanders on the ground, like you and I, are not naive, and probably know better than we do, that Trump is following Putin’s directives, here. But, they also know that they have no way to establish that, and that an order is an order. As the orders have no violence attached to them, they would not even question them, officially. Nor, would we want them to, as they have no way of guessing at the broader strategy behind such orders. However, events on the ground are a different ballpark. “Someone,” alerted Trump to the fact that US troops would be witness to atrocities, as the fighting was literally closing in on them, from all sides. So, a corridor had to be created, (the ceasefire) in which to get them out, without being put in a compromising position; as there are no orders telling them NOT to intervene, if they a witness to war crimes. These are, after all, their personal friends, with whom they have spilled the same blood, in the same mud. As I said, above, this is why the ceasefire was not respected, as it was only a deal, between Erdogan and Trump, to allow US troops to get out, without exposing them to what’s going on. So, the Turks have continued to blast areas where they know there are no US military. The short answer is: No, they can’t question their orders. But, yes they could intervene or even refuse unlawful orders, if confronted with their allies and their families being murdered. Which is why they have been shielded from that, after Trump was informed of the potential mess that could result, too late. Does that answer your question?
