I don’t want to be attacked here in the comments, but could they not afford to pay a staff to take care of their home? I don’t care that times were different, this didn’t take place thousands of years ago.

@Steven-wm9vu It must've been very expensive to hire people to watch their slaves work all day and someone should've been there to taste all of the foods before the master could eat and people would have to watch those people and on and on and on. Maybe just pay people and then they might not want to kill you?

@jamesburtonbud That is so true. It took a Civil War and another 50 years to get rid of legalized discrimination, now we’ve got illegal but condoned violence.

@heatherjones6647 You are awesome Heather! I’m glad that we are all having this conversation because none of us were there. I don’t know what I would’ve done in those circumstances, I only know how I feel today. The Federal minimum wage is incredibly low and a form of indentured service.
