  1. I was very fortunate that my dad owned his own small business. He taught us markup versus margin, how to balance your checkbook and how to make change, just to name a few things. My dad majored in accounting at university. I majored in business finance. We were taught about investing in tax shelters and he encouraged us to have no high interest loans and to try to have our house payment as our only debt.
