From Wikipedia:
“The governments of India, Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, have all claimed ownership of the Koh-i-Noor, demanding the diamond’s return ever since India gained independence from the British Empire in 1947. The British government insists the gem was obtained legally under the terms of the Last Treaty of Lahore and has rejected the claims.”
So the first step is for India, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan to agree between themselves which one of them has the strongest rightful claim to the Koh-i-Noor. Until then, there’s nothing the UK can do.
(Cutting the Koh-i-Noor into 4 separate pieces and giving one to each claimant would be a terrible idea, and an act of cultural vandalism, as it would destroy the historic jewel - the UK should categorically refuse to even consider that solution, despite the Taliban’s view that it would be better to destroy the Koh-i-Noor than leave it in British hands.)
