  1.  @georgesdelatour  : That’s because many (most?) of the Tory Lords are pre-2016, pre-Brexit Lords. They are traditional moderate Tories, like John Major and David Cameron (who are both pro-EU). So many of them would see Brexit as a huge mistake, just like the Labour Lords do. So I wouldn’t rely on them to protect Brexit by hindering Labour’s efforts to align UK regulations with the EU’s.

  2. The Tories have benefited for decades from the left wing vote being split between Labour and the Lib Dems. Now they’re getting a taste of it, and they really don’t like it!

  3. Starmer’s opposition will be the Conservative majority in the House of Lords. The Lords will try to force pro-Tory amendments onto all of Starmer’s bills (except the ones in the Labour manifesto, as by convention the Lords don’t oppose manifesto commitments.)
