@peace-now : Yeah, the Russians were worried and disappointed that the USA dropped 2 atomic bombs on Imperial Japan. Russia wanted America to launch a massive amphibious invasion of southern Japan and hopefully suffer at least a million American casualties as a result. Then in mid-1946 when the Japanese were on the brink of defeat, Russia would launch its own invasion in northern Japan, and take over the northern half the country at relatively low cost. But Hiroshima and Nagasaki put paid to that idea.

@kmadge9820 : Ukraine is not shelling the nuclear plant itself - it is shelling the Russian forces using the plant as a base.

He said, NATO would not react with a strategic nuclear attack on Russia if Russia launched small tactical nuclear weapons at Ukraine. However, that does leave the door open for a conventional NATO response. For example, NATO is very likely to change its mind about imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine if the Russians start using tactical nukes or chemical weapons.

The USA allowed the Communists to win in South Vietnam. I think that counts as a strategic Soviet victory in the Cold War.

One of the worst things to happen to the world is the existence of the United States of America. The world would be a better place if the War of the American Revolution had never happened, or had been a British victory. Imagine - no USA and no Canada, just one huge country called 'America' with Canadian style government, laws and education system.

NATO would not respond with nuclear weapons, that's what he meant.

@kmadge9820 : Unlike the Russians, the Ukrainians can hit targets very accurately. So they can hit tanks parked outside the plant without damaging the plant itself.
