The Hurricane was a terrible aircraft to ditch in due to its air intake under its belly as this would flip the plane arse over tit which was bad. Very bad. Fulmars where better as they had longer range and much more ammo but were very heavy and had a crew of two. Plus the FAA needed its Fulmars. Much maligned aircraft the Fulmar. Most successful FAA fighter of the war. True dat...

@mikepette4422 The fact that something good actually came out of the Fairey Battle airframe is remarkable in itself. I think naval radar direction helped massively and the fact the observer could handle that aspect in the early days was another big plus. You get some hateful comments from folks with Top Trump type arguments who’ve not actually read a grown up book about aviation. But you can dismiss the easy enough. They just see stats and not what they actually mean/meant in the real world. I really like Fulmars. They were big and clumsy but strangely effective. Reminds me of myself. :)
