This would also get rid of the phenomenon that some people call the "shrinking internet". There's actually a lot on the internet that google does not show. Search for something and it will always tell you there are 50 million results or so, right? Well, if you actually try to reach the end of the results you'll find that it always ends after only a couple of hundred results.

@badrang431 I don't think it would actually be that problematic depending on exactly what you want to do. Google and alike use tons of storage but they store an endless record of personal data, they cache every website they index, and have tons of features. Building just a keyword-based index seems doable. And on the modern internet, if I were to do it, I would vastly decrease the amount of data by skipping social media pages.
