There is a valid argument to be against this ban. It is not what Amnesty is saying. It is that many of these women won't even be allowed to go outside anymore because of this ban; they'll be locked up inside and abused even worse. That was the point of debate in the Netherlands before they introduced the ban.

@Joederbo Well, I didn't say I disagree with the ban. I said there is a good argument against the ban. But that argument is not "letting women decide themselves". They don't do that either way.

@youtubevisitor697 Their husbands or families. The reason for these things is that according to their religious beliefs, a woman can't be seen by strange men - only by their husband or father.

@pontchatrain It is not about who is accountable. The problem is how such a ban turns out in practice. Will it help those women become somewhat more free or only make matters worse? It is not as if the government can (or should) see everything that happens behind closed doors. If a man decides to forbid his wife from going outside, the government doesn't know that.

@dilmaarora5316 I understand your hope. The problem is that laws don't always work the way you want them. These women have to wear this because the extremely conservative community they belong to makes them do it. First their parents tell them to, and later their husbands. They do this because they believe a woman is not allowed to show her beauty to others. So if you make it illegal to go outside dressed like that, there is a real risk many of these women won't be allowed to go outside at all. And that would only make it worse for them.
