Teachers in highschool are educated higher themselves. It has nothing to do with it being seen as a women's job (which it isn't). A teacher in middle school requires a bachelor in education (the PABO in the Netherlands), but to teach in highschool you also need an education in the specific subject you're teaching. This also means they are harder to find because the job requirements are much more specific, which naturally leads to a higher pay for the position.
