Comments by "JBird" (@jbird4478) on "Latest research: Long-covid and the loss of smell | COVID-19 Special" video.
About 60% suffer from loss of smell. That sounds scary if you don't mention that most patients recover it within a month. And then you continue to emphasize how horrible it is. This isn't objective reporting. This is fear mongering.

What are the social, psychological, and medical long term consequences of the measures taken by governments?

@mr_high8129 I used to have a fairly high regard for DW, but that has vanished due to their reporting on covid.

Kenelm Pace If it is so objective then why don't they mention most people regain their smell after covid?

Kenelm Pace It seems the mindset of accepting death as part of life has vanished when it comes to covid.

@elsanti9706 Then everything you call a reliable source is lying. There is insufficient data to make that claim.

abdula mendez It's a difficult question but not the impossible. The fact that much is unknown applies to the consequences of the virus itself as well, and DW has had no problems making the most alarming predictions about that either. In July last year for example the UN already estimated the amount of people chronically hungry would increase by 130 million as a result of the economic downfall. The Dutch government (where I live) released a report recently that summarized some consequences. They observed only 60% of youth is psychologically healthy, the population at large smokes more, exercises less, a 20% increase in the amount of calls to the suicide prevention line, and a 20% increase in the amount of calls to the "Childphone" (a national organization that helps kids) about abuse, among other things.

abdula mendez I agree, we should open everything. The government should provide advice to people that is grounded in science, but not enforce anything. In comparison: most governments have very active anti-smoking campaigns, but let people decide for themselves. That is the right way for a government to handle health problems. And around 7 million people die each year from smoking; 3x the amount of people who died from covid-19.

@apmechev It means they create conditions to stimulate mutation. This is done for example to study under what conditions viruses can mutate to infect humans. It's a controversial type of research because it can create mutations that don't naturally occur. Edit: sorry, I thought you were replying to a comment I made elsewhere about the same subject ;)
