Comments by "duncan smith" (@duncansmith7562) on "Would EU membership keep Russia out of Georgia? | Focus on Europe" video.
The very extreme of Russophobia..."No Russian soldiers have come to my village, but we are scared of them". Great to see some fine, balanced reporting with villagers in South Ossetia having their say on their fears of Georgian hostilities.

but it did in Abkhazia and South Ossetia

as all the warmongers hope for

It's a stunning indictment of how bad things must be in Georgia if the likes of Albania and Ukraine can be accepted, but Georgia rejected! Sounds like even South Ossetia would have a better chance of gaining admission to EU (the bar is set so astoundingly low these days).

@1ndragunawan The separatists of Cataluna would passionately disagree with you. So would the Turkish Cypriots of Northern Cyprus. When did Serbia give permission for Kosovo to become independent? Presumably you are FURIOUS NATO bombed Serbia for 70 days when Serbia insisted it needed to give Kosovo permission for a referendum? The real world is MUCH more complicated than "permission for a referendum". Get real.

@DolphinsWIthIgloos accepted as a candidate nation, but it amounts to the same thing for Ukraine. no one will have the guts to vote against the most corrupt country in Europe being fast tracked and admitted.

Elena D no one is arguing that corruption doesn't exist in some countries, but we all know it exists to a lot greater extent in some countries rather than others. I don't know where Russia and Ukraine are in the "Corruption Table" but I know Russia is not a candidate nation for the EU, but Ukraine is, so from a European perspective, it's Ukrainian corruption that must be scrutinized.

@1ndragunawan No faulty assumptions here! 1) UN membership is totally irrelevant to the process of claiming and establishing independence. Was UN membership needed for USA to declare its independence from Great Britain? 2) Catalonia is NOT part of Spain if you are a Catalonian separatist! Kosovo is NOT part of Serbia if you are a Kosovar Separatist Northern Cyprus is NOT part of Republic of Cyprus if you are a Turkish Cypriot. It all depends on your philosophical stance. 3) Separatists CAN and DO declare their independence at ANY time. A declaration of independence is not necessarily connected with the might of the so called "sovereign" country.4) DPR and LPR need no peace treaty to become independent and liberated from Ukraine. Again, look at Northern Cyprus. 5) That's how the REAL world works. Learn something!

@1ndragunawan I guess English is your second language and Reading Comprehension is not your forte. You said "KOSOVO IS NOT A UN MEMBER". I. correctly, pointed out that being a UN member has NOTHING to do with claims for independence. You are woefully ignorant, so you need to learn more and pay attention. Again, in the context of claiming independence, you said "KOSOVO IS NOT A UN MEMBER". The history of the world is replete with independence claims that had or have NOTHING to do with the UN. Learn better English, read more carefully, think more logically.

@DolphinsWIthIgloos i disagree. i don't think saint zelensky or his successor will have to do any cleanup. with "Russia bad, Ukraine good" as the narrative of the West, Ukraine will be admitted no problem. just like Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest, a political decision, no questions asked. we'll see.
