Ask Australians, where voting is compulsory. Russia just following the West's rules based system.

"many ordinary Ukrainians think the same". = the many extraordinary Ukrainians back union with Russia

@Andrew-ob5ij it's compulsory to vote in Oz. You are free to choose to vote or not to vote in Russia. How can you compare the two? One is freedom to choose, one is compulsion.

@Andrew-ob5ij oh, dear Andrew, your usual method of debating the issues, scurrying to check the date when someone joined. pathetic.

Imagine that, armed men in a war zone, entering buildings. that proves it's a sham!

methinks thou doth protest too much. the more you keep yelling "sham" the more I think you just can't accept most ethnic Russians want to be part of Russia.

@bluecardholder they don't need to...the police come knocking on your door when you don't vote in Oz. In Russia, you are free to choose to vote, or not. Russia has real electoral freedom. Oz doesn't.

@viperabyss compulsory voting means you have no freedom to refuse to vote. That in itself is undemocratic, and the Western world should condemn such autocracy. Australia should be ashamed of such nonsense. In Russia one can refuse to vote and there are no consequences. That is called freedom, and it would give you a clue as to why so many want to be liberated from Ukrainian despotism. Learn some facts

@viperabyss so as long as your life is spared, compulsory voting is an absolutely wonderful idea, right?
1
@dannyarcher6370 either way it is the ethnic Russians declaring, AGAIN, they want to be part of Russia, a point the West just refuses to accept.
1
@viperabyss what happens in Australia if you cannot or will not pay the fine? imprisonment?
1
@viperabyss in that both are a denial of a basic democratic right, YES! The difference is that no one is forced to vote at gunpoint in Russia, but people ARE punished for refusing to vote in Australia. I know which one is MUCH more democratic when it comes to voting rights, and so do you...you are just too embarrassed to accept it! Western hypocrisy!
