  13. "Free" will is little more than the ability to form a subjective translation/interpretation of reality. It's simply not "free". It would have to exist in a literal void in order to be completely free, and that's impossible. From an absolutist perspective- it doesn't exist but that's only because absolutism is a logical fallacy.

  22. This is such a ridiculous notion. Of course we have free will. What Robert is indirectly describing as 'free will' is something so ultimate that it's essentially god-like in terms of perception. We are not gods. We have free will within the context of our environs, and within the context of reality. "Free will" is something that happens within a dynamic system. Even prisoners have free will. Free will is just more simplistic, limited, and subject to the subjecthood of Plato's Cave. That doesn't nullify it. If anything is living proof of free will, I am. "I think, therefore I am" does not posit the what, when where, why, and how of it all, and it doesn't need to. It doesn't even matter if your free will is simulated- you have free will within the context of the simulation. It's not a healthy mindset to assume you don't have free will. It's about as hive mind as you could possibly be.

  28.  @cameron9292  Animals are perfectly capable of reasoning. Some of them even use tools. They are so much smarter than I think we'll ever know. A raven, for example, has the cognitive ability of a 7 year old child (roughly). They are just like us, they have both instinct, and reason. Free will has context, and that context is entirely dependent. Human existence is incredibly limited. Indeed, our senses are incapable of sensing all universal phenomena. We are trapped in Plato's Cave of subjectivity, and with it comes subjecthood. This is easy to solve- stop thinking subjectively, and you will rediscover your free will.

You see, their minds work differently, and that difference in processing is an aspect of their free will. Free will is the difference between ranch, and blue cheese dressing. Like how do you explain the variance in siblings? How do you explain a child who grew up in the ghetto but still becomes a doctor? Perhaps you just don't want to be responsible for your own failures?
