It is imperative to require foreign-born people to take an English examination before admitting them to university.

@MichelleTopham Michelle, perhaps you didn't understand what I wrote. Please try reading it again.

@helenacorreia7613 Helena, that's fine if you want. However, there are literally people who have Australian or Canadian (examples) citizenship, yet cannot speak English at all. Their daddy is rich, and bought them a nice passport. So they think they can hop over to the US and immediately enter college because of their passport. . Also, there is such a thing as birth-tourism, where many rich Chinese pregnant women went to a foreign country, had their baby there, got a passport, then took the kid back to China for the rest of its life. Should that kid just be allowed to enter college in America and enter a university like a native-born? . You need to expand your knowledge of the world.

@MichelleTopham An exact quote, Michelle: "It is imperative to require foreign-born people to take an English examination before admitting them to university." . Your insistence that this is not good policy is what I determine to be in error. Have a good day.

@Lunapple1 Luna, nothing crazy at all about having non-native students take English tests and holding them back a grade. In this case, they were held back for only 2 weeks, so it was obviously no big deal.

@deanronson6331 Dean, you obviously live in a small world of your own making. Now let's try to think like a college admissions administrator for a short time. 1. You are tasked with making sure that students trying to obtain admission can benefit from what your college has to offer. 2. You have no way of knowing if these foreign people can actually speak and use English at a college level or not. . Are you starting to understand the situation better now?
