  1. Claude, your recommendation is the best I've read on this video. There are lots of ancient historical things in Asuka area, and renting a bike to tour them all and just enjoy the laid-back Japanese countryside is very special.

  5.  @missplainjane3905  Jane, please remember we are talking about having just a few days to see the sights of Japan. Going to Himeji to see the best castle in Japan would be nice if you have the time and inclination to do that too. Of course Kyoto has many ancient things also.

  6.  @danielebaldo1318  Daniele, Not sure about today, but a few weeks ago Japan was allowing up to 5,000 foreign tourists a day, with calls to increase it to 20,000. Right now the 7th wave of corona is hitting Japan hard, so they might have tightened the rules again, but they know they need to open back up as soon as possible.

  7. Mostly they are never really considered Japanese. That goes doubly so if the foreigners have a different skin color.

  8. While this was interesting to hear their recommendations, it is obvious most of them are thinking about for themselves, not for what foreigners would be interested in. Takashi, please do this same video, but ask foreigners who have lived in Japan for at least 2 years to give their opinions. You will undoubtedly get very different answers (except for the Kyoto, Fuji, and onsen answers you got here which were very good).

  9.  @missplainjane3905  I was thinkinig about this video last nite a bit - most of the people interviewed are college aged, or in their 20s, it appears. Of course they would just give info on what they like themselves, without thinking of the position of being a foreigner to Japan. . I realize not every foreigner coming to Japan wants to know about Japanese history, or even to learn anything at all about Japan. Some people may be entirely happy just walking a few streets in Tokyo, eating some food, shopping, and going back. . But for most foreigners who come for something other than shopping, I believe they would want to go to some museums, and especially see Nara, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. And in fact, I book i saw published about 10 years ago on the most popular places for foreign tourists in Japan mentioned these 3 places, along with I think Asakusa in Tokyo. . Oh, one more thing, no one mentioned a castle, and you cannot understand Japan well without considering their castle and especially samurai culture.
