There are a group (the tea party is littered with them - those crazy 'libertarians') called 'authoritaraians' making upo 20-25% of the population its these people the GOP are appealing to and they are REALLY nasty people who would quite happily march into a totalitarain state (while, ironically, proclaiming freedom). They cannot be reasoned with (they are STUNNINGLY bigoted), they are highly prejudiced and snobby, compartmentalized in their thinking and illogical.
