  4. Birmingham once used firefighters to control a peaceful march in the civil rights era of the 1960s when the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was there. Lawful good police officers should have been there to tell the marchers to keep off the grass, but having firefighters turn their hoses on them? Pathetic! That event made headlines in England and Europe.
