Is this “expert” talking all sense? Too simplistic observations. He can afford to do just that as an academic. I am in the US. I find that most leading experts here have only an academic idea of this great Nation. Be warned. While nobody in the West wants a strong China, they do not at all want a strong democratic, assertive India as well!!!

In continuation of my earlier comment... The Print is definitely doing a good job by bringing in an assortment of experts in this programme. Among other things, such interactions are required to reveal the ignorance of the West in many aspects relating to India.

zzz g Even without definitive ambitions India can influence world affairs because of its demography (read, market), overseas Indians etc....It will be a natural process, to influence, if and when India becomes an economic power. Te West and China do not want it to happen.

@john doe yes. That is my point. All support, rightly, is only to that extent...say mutual benefit. The world missed that one on China in the past two decades. I agree. India is no threat to the world or anybody like China. But as in this world a democratic super economic power will dominate, there is no denying that India wants to be an economic power for its own good. Of course, all this is decades ahead.

john doe they were caught unawares. For long they did not know or care what was happening there...busy as they were with Russia, Middle East, Libya, Iran, Afghanistan etc..etc..They realized that there was a country “China” only after their businesses (manufacturing) moved in there. By then it was too late. So now instead of prevention it is now redemption!!! I am not faulting anybody here...all Nations want to be on top one way or the other...stability accompanies tension...law of physics...
