@GabbarWaldHariSingh MH. You have your views and probably your reasons. Respect that. I speak from a position where I have been actively involved in both the games for over half a century. There is no more elitist games. There may be elitist entertainment. Whether elitism is desirable, I can’t say. But elitism will be part of a democracy and free market.

Nice analysis. How hockey is a right example of inclusivity for India. I my school days, the position of players on the hockey field was set as – forwards- right out, right in, centre forward, left in, left out; and then threw er halfs, backs and goal keeper. The tactics largely depended on individual abilities to dribble past the defence. The game has changed – now nobody is left out right out of the game -It is (loosely) attack, support and defence with everybody generally capable of playing any role. And then, women are also included…. Total inclusivity? Tail piece: Inclusivity is Not a one way lane. Traffic has to move in both directions.

We gotta get out of stereo thinking. Is cricket still an elitist sport? I wonder. . Even in golf, there are more ex caddies, their children and groundmen's children playing the circuits.
