A good programme. My take briefly (though it is long for “comments”). But the a message, which religious leaders and politicians intentionally fail to convey, need to be conveyed (with malice to none) The only permeance in this world is change. There are two facets to any religion. The core message and the methods. While the core message (probably same for all religions) is simple and addresses the inner self the methods are more ethereal and prone to changes as civillisation evolves. Else, we would still be in the vortex of child marriages and the Sati. It is imperative that every religion changes the methods in a multicultural environment. The split of the Catholic churches and the various sects in Islam are a result of such desires for change in methods. There is nothing wrong or blasphemous in changing methods. Even among the followers of Islam, while the Sunnis recommend wearing of Hijab on most occasions, the Shias mandate it only during the offering of prayers. In the context every method prescribed are matters of interpretations. The Hadiths (addons) are but interpretations of what is ordained in the Quaran and should be treated as subjective. Tailpiece: Let me illustrate: In an Iyer marriage the prescription is for the wedding ceremonies to span four days mandating 48 rituals. The Vedas prescribe only seven and many of you will be surprised to learn that wearing the Manglsutra or the Sindhoor (above the forehead or anywhere else) are NOT among them. The followers of a religion tend to add on customs and practices to suit an environment or for mere exploitation – mostly for the latter. The people are made fools and politicians have a field day laughing all the way to the vote bank.
