Some essentials I did not notice being mentioned here regarding democracy in India. (I reserve the right to be wrong)… In a large and diverse democracy like India, where political parties, since Independence (and some even before that) are - a) Parochial b) Run like family trusts (in most cases cozying up to particular sections of society c) Openly catering (since decades) to certain religious denominations d) Sectarian– each of these with the exclusion of other sections of the society, why are some erudite persons, suddenly using phrases like “Liberal Democracy”. Does this mean that in all these years since 1947, India was not a liberal democracy? Not clarified . Tail piece: Robespierre, Karl Marx and MG Gandhi were created by circumstances and they did not create any circumstance.
