Reciting poetry before a warrior dies sounds interestingly similar to what the warriors are trying to achieve in the movie "The Thirteenth Warrior", by reciting the same verse before each battle. Much like the woman does at the King's funeral. I know the movie is based on Michael Crichton's book, "The Eaters of the Dead", which is only very loosely based on Ibn Fadlan's writings, but I'm just curious if that was the intent in the movie/book.... Anyway, it's more or less just an observation of the similarity between the movie and history. 🙂
