What I'd like to know is how Heydrich at 6'3" managed to squeeze himself in the cockpit of a Bf-109? I watched a video a few years back when a present-day 5'10" RAF pilot had a hard time getting in a restored one. If I remember correctly he muttered "What? Were they all bloody midgets?" At any rate, evil monster that he was every award on Heydrich's unfiorm was earned, we can say that much for him. By the way, there's photos of Erwin Rommel wearing one of those "Honorary Pilot's Badges" as well. Doing so had Hitler's approval. Another good one Doctor F! Thanks!

Perfect! I wish I'd thought of that one!

Quite true. While Hitler went through the public mourning and funeral services willingly privately he was furious with Heydrich for being so reckless. "Driving around in an open car with no security escort? What was he thinking? Pure irresponsible bravado! It's the opportunity that makes the thief!" Adolf wrote the book on that last sentence! Takes one to know one...

@AnthonyHancock-s7v No disputing that, and I had no idea Roald Dahl was that tall! That same RAF pilot I mentioned also got in the cockpit of a Spitfire and commented it was much roomier than the Messerschmitt and much more comfortable. I'd imagine the same was true for the Hurricane.

@TheSpritz0 So THAT'S why we've never seen a picture of Goering in a 109!

@ETRHeydrich I've wondered if Rommel got some pilot training, you may just have answered the question. However even if a general officer wanted to do a personal aerial reconnisance it was typically in a light plane with an assigned pilot. Patton had a civilian pilot's license (so did Eisenhower in fact) but I've never read of him piloting a plane in a war zone, although he may have.

@TheSpritz0 There's a photo of Goering (supposedly) in the cockpit of his personal FW-200 Condor. He's sitting in the cockpit of something but whether he's actually flying it or not is open to question.

If what I've read in a book called "A Higher Form Of Killing" (a history of chemical and biological warfare) is true the bomb that fatally wounded Heydrich was coated with a biological agent. If the bomb didn't kill him outright infections caused by the bomb fragments would.

@TheSpritz0 Either that or there was some "photo-schopping" going on!

@MarvinHartmann452 🤣🤣🤣!

@Nick_B_Bad That's what I've read, a LOT of Nazis were afraid of this man.

@ToddiusMaximus Uncalled for. Stay on topic here or please leave.

@Nick_B_Bad No doubt! HE was the Nazi all the other Nazis were afraid of, and that should tell us something!
