They were left because it was 20 year hard desert used equipment that general said would be more expensive to haul all back than it was worth. Did US win? In very lopsided way. They achieved goal of why they were there, crushed alquaeda, who was responsible for 911 attack... Taliban didn't want to cooperate. So US had to spank them as well. Sent them into hiding 20 years. Killed 50000 Afghan troops. Usa lost only 2400. Pretty obvious. Education was free. You're welcome
