  2. I’m 71 on a small Social Security payment, lost many prime earning years being sick...so am very grateful for SNAP (food stamps). As Sophie Tucker said, I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor and believe me rich is better!

  3. FYI I graduated in 1977...no jobs then either. However I went to a state school, worked part time, paid $250/qtr for an excellent education, and 2 years later after a low paying editorial assistant job got into a good law school.

  4.  @BaltimoreAndOhioRR  in fairness, I believe some teachers probably believed the kids would actually get an education. Doubt they knew how insane college costs had gotten. Counselors knew, admins were responsible for the astronomical cost and abysmal quality. Parents also should have known, and not let the kid major in Gender Based Postmodern Philosophy of Basket Weaving.I got a great liberal arts education (major history, minor zoology) for $750/year, even my law school tuition topped out at $6,500/year, now its over $60K and the school fell from Second to Third Tier. But I was in college 1972-7 and law school 1979-81.
