Gaza isn’t all of Palestine, Styxie, there are 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank, which is governed by the PNA (Palestinian National Authority). Gaza is controlled by Hamas and despite being much smaller in area has 2.3 million Palestinians.

@menow. Jordan WAS Palestine, part of the British Mandate, and held the West Bank til they lost it to Israel in 1967 and continued to claim it til 1988 when they gave up. Jordan had attacked Israel after the Brits left, along with Egypt and Syria, and they lost. I don’t know how many Palestinian refugees they have taken in over the years but they don’t want the Gazans now! Frankly, the history of that area is so complex it’s no wonder that some folks say LET THEM FIGHT.

@ugiswrong I know but I have yet to find one single commentator of ANY political stance who ISN’T talking out his arse. I majored in modern European history with a secondary field in Middle Eastern history, so it’s particularly frustrating to hear the oversimplifications and mistakes, and outright falsities that are flying around.

@MarsupialGamer Jordan was part of the British Mandate of Palestine.

@BertoxolusThePuzzled Jordan was established under the aegis of the Brits and is a Hashemite kingdom. Which has largely avoided the troublesome Palestinian element so as you say it didn’t get destabilized like Lebanon.

@kurokitsune17 it means seriously disgruntled Arabs in the former British mandate they called Palestine. Til the end of WWI it was a backwater of the Ottoman Empire.

@kurokitsune17 wrong. “General use of the term "Palestine" or related terms to the area at the southeast corner of the Mediterranean Sea beside Syria has historically been taking place since the times of Ancient Greece, with Herodotus being the first historian writing in the 5th century BC in The Histories of a "district of Syria, called Palaistine" in which Phoenicians interacted with other maritime peoples.. The term "Palestine" (in Latin, Palæstina) is thought to have been a term coined by the Ancient Greeks for the area of land occupied by the Philistines, although there are other explanations.”
