superfluous2004 "MKIV Supra was a fine car" - and yet, why just a bit more than 11,000 examples were sold in the U.S. market compared to the preceeding A70 model?
3
Except Subaru initially didn't want to get involved with the twins. It wasn't until Toyota bought share of Fuji Heavy Industries (now Subaru Corporation) that the cars were developed and made.
2
I would say, as a Subaru fan, it's the other way around. Toyota pitched in the idea of a RWD car.
2
@butchfajardo8832 - the Supra is actually more potent than the RC F despite the horsepower difference. Chassis is better, too, compared to the frankenplatform the Lexus uses.
2
The platform isn't exactly excelling in the handling department.
2
@korswe - not quite. Besides, how heavy are those grand tourers? Edit: Before I forget, there is also the importance of how well-developed and designed the chassis are. Can't exactly perform well if a manufacturer do it poorly.
2
@ehiracheta - let's not forget that the JZ was placed on a bunch of other Toyota and Lexus models: Aristo and GS, Soarer and SC.

North America sales say otherwise.

Some rally legends started out as unassuming econoboxes (Subaru's Impreza, Mitsubishi's Lancer, Lancia's Delta). Keep that in mind.
1
"Toyota blew it bigtime" - not quite, especially given its podiums and wins in the DTM Trophy, Formula D, Nurburgring 24 Hours, Super Taikyu, among others.
1
"Toyota FAILED BIG TIME!" - nope, it actually succeded.
1
There's actually a lot more Toyota in the car (Aisin transmission, D-4S system, spark plugs, even the idea of a RWD car itself).
1
@drunkpunk5393 - incorrect. Besides, Supra has decades of aftermarket RnD. By contrast, the B58's has fewer, but the potential is being discovered at a fast rate.
1
@drunkpunk5393 - again, incorrect. Those are a lot of assumptions.
1
"Why Toyota would sully their name with a BMW engine is completely beyond me." More like we were the one who did it first by criticizing and not actually buying the A80 back when it was new.
1
The Supra's a sports car. Apples-to-oranges comparison.
1
"it is slow" - not quite. "overpriced" - a base 3.0 with the manual costs $54,500 without the dealer markups.
1
Not quite, especially considering how many A80 Supras were sold back when it was new in the U.S. alone.
1
@Akecherfd8424 - "i see you are one of those fanboys" - not quite, especially given how bad N. American sales of the A80 model were. "You can't accept its basically a BMW" - dude, no one is denying about that part. It's even an open secret years before the first J29 models came out.
