Normalising this will allow easier smuggling, cheating and money laundering when the guise of religious expression is used for hiding unlawful activities. Even islamic nations like tajikistan have banned hijab. The reason why this issue started now (though various previous judgements of various courts have been in favour of suppression of religion over personal or social rights) is to create a controversy particularly before the state elections. The student wing of the radical islamic organisation called SDPI, which is called Campus Front, has links with this issue. SDPI (which ironically stands for Secular Democratic Party of India despite having little of either secularism or democracy within itself) is a far right islamic political party that has been linked in the past to unlawful, seditious and even terrorist activities, and is active in northern kerala and southern karnataka.
