USA is a divisible federation of indivisible states while India is a indivisible Union of divisible states. The logic aplied in USA is flawed and does not reflect the fundamental principle of universal sufferage - that every citizen's vote should count equally. The interests of regional parties do not supercede the fundamental principles of Indian democracy.

@Blueberry-x7x so UP has same amount of vote as goa? Are citizens of UP second class citizens that their vote counta for less in national level? And what if tomorrow the center decides to divide UP and MP into many more states for ease of administration? Wont you protest even then? This is not about fairness but about maintaining political clout in a ever changing world, because south parties can neither appeal to voters in other states with their exclusive regional ideologies, nor do they want to integrate people from other states into their states out of fear of loss of political power. This debate is not about reward vs punishment, but about maintaining the current status quo to retain what little political power they have left through divisive narrativez.

@paranoah1925 you think people of kerala vote solely on ideology? Or even tamil nadu? In TN different caste groups dominate different regions. Just because brahmins are not dominant doesnt mean people dont vote based on caste, or even religion - best example is malappuram in kerala. Everyone in India needs to be more politically educated - some need more education than others. But this idea that people of south India are politicially enlightened is stupid. The same human selfishness exists in politics of south Indian states, people are just more influenced by money making than satisfied with only identity politics. Bihar cerrainly needs to learn that and vote politicians which make people rich and improve their livelihood.

@rajveerkumar642 factories are set up if facilities are present. It is nothing to do with cunning, everything to do with infrastructure. That is why there are not many factries in kerala while there are lots of factories in tamil nadu. Now UP is catching up due to Yogi Adityanath while bihar is again lagging due to selfish people like nitish kumar. The only cunning people here are selfish politicians that sacrifice the developement of their own people just to hold on to power. Those who act smart to attract industry are not cunninng, they are doing their duty as per the constitution.

According to you ideally saying not every indian vote is equal but southrn vote per person is more valuable than northern vote? Also by your logic adani and ambani should have more say because they pay mire taxes than the average businessman?

@BharatThatIsIndia does same logic apply to poor people vs rich people as well? Why reward poor people by giving subsidies and economic support then? Why should the money of honest taxpayer be spent on those freeloaders when it can be used to reward the rich taxpaying people of India whose money fills the coffers of the nation? Or does lofty ideals lime social justice spring up only when it is convinient for you?

@lalithrockz if that were true then it would be BMPRUP and Jarkhand and chattisgarh would feature in that acronym too. Instead the term was crafted such that it sounded like "bimar" meaning "sickly". The term msked as an acronymn is a slur against these states for being sickly and is as derogatory as calling a malayali a "madrasi" or a person from the north east a "nepali".

@arjavgarg5801 I am from capital of kerala - Thiruvananthapuram. This is not just about south north divide but about selfish interests of regional political parties who value their own existence above the existence of the nation.

@lalithrockz delimitation based on population is the only concrete answer since it is in line with the spirit of the constitution that says "one person one vote". Then in a reprrsentative democracy, each representative should represent approximately the same x number of people.

Politically it means being a part of a greater whole where despite superficial differences, the roots of language, culture and fundamental thought processes are the same. That is what it means to me. I cannot speak for anyone else in this regard nor can i expect how you would answer the above question or percieve what my answer would be...

That was set in stone by the constituent assembly and further established by acts like the state reorganisation act of 1956 and subsequent acts of parliment in this regard. Yet you continue to give EU and USA as ecxamples because that suits your narrative while you conviniently ignore the history of independent India. India was conceived as a nation where the identity of Indian superceded all other identities identities, which is in stark contrast to the EU. Your method of thought sugfests that regional state identities should supercede the national identity - regional partues continue to pursue this narrative because they value their regionally confined political power more than the integrity of the nation. That is why they can never be thought of as deserving of being given the power to sustain the long term future of the nation.

@arjavgarg5801 1. What does bimaru mean in hindi? 2. Why Bihar alone is taken as Bi, why only M of MP taken and why only U of UP taken? 3. Why orissa not included? 4. What about haryana? 5. Why acronym wasnt updated for 50 years? Answer to first question itself gives clear idea of what the intention of the acronym was. The fact that it is still being used in that same form even after 50 years shows whether people gave importance to its technicality or to the idea/notion it conveyed.

@STARK 2 💫 you are entitled as a citizen of India to oppose change. Being from UP does not in itself make your opinion any more valuable or any less valuable. Similarly, let all the citizens of India decide on this matter - that whether they still beleive that they are all equal and if each and every persons vote should have the same weight in deciding the future of the country.

@mncbabu that is a impractical solution that will fragment the country - that is evident from how hostile relations are between the states of USA - such as texas and california. But again, this entire narrative is just about regional plauers wanting to shore up their power and influence, keep the current system running and not worry about any other region of the nation except the one they have influemce over. Under your system the natio will be fragmented into various spheres of influemce and in each sphere parties will enrich themselves on those people without any incentive to work for anything bigger. What you propose is seperation of feeding grounds for different political entities so that they can continue to grow fat withlut the threat of political opponents. That will be ensured since the police also will be under state governments - so that no outside political entity will be allowed to even exist inside the new divisions of India. Your idea is the balkanisation of India.

That is why i explained to him how that term is derogatory so that he wont repeat it if he is truly a sincere person. The term is very much derogatory, the acronymn was framed to be derogatory and it will be derogatory as long as it is used.

@surajbiradar9827 if sushma swaraj can learn kannada to campaign in karnataka why cant the reverse be true for other politicians. The question then is not about inability but about unwillingness. This unwillingness will be forced to be set aside only when regional parties are forced to go national to stay relevant.

As for the national motto - my suggestion is to change it from " satyameva jayate" to "shantidoot jayate" to more accurately reflect how the nation has lavished its biggest minority population with so much resources for no gain whatsoever. Also brave of you tk think the states have any choice in the matter of staying or leaving the union. What strange delusions you have 😄

@lalithrockz what do you think it means? I know of people from Tamil Nadu who went to kerala for work, one generation later the children are malayalis for all intents and purposes. That is what integration means. The same is true across states - example of this is in some families of bihar that resettle now in kerala. This has been happenning for centuries, but is harmful for regional political parties since they cannot use regional identity alone to ensure victory.

India is not a federation since the same single Indian constitution is applicable over the entire territory of India. If names alone explain the functioning ans spirit of a political entity, then i can only imagine what you think of the national socialist german workers party, its goals and its history. Thinking of the future without acknowledging the past is a fools exercise. Those who willfully forget gistory are doomed to repeat it. The way forward is the delimitation of new constituencies based on the change in population of regions to preserve the values of equality among all citizens of India and the idea of "one citizen one vote". Anything less than that is saying that some citizens of India are less equal than others...

@rajx7120 why not? The meaning of lok sabha itself is peoples house. In the current scheme some representatives represent much more people than others? If every citizens vote is of equal value then lok sabha should also be expamded so that each representative serves the same number of people throughput the nation.

@wigglyk2796 explain why and how adding more layers of representation between the people and the ruler, and giving such huge sweeping power to a single person will help demcracy? Looking at what that system has done to USA in terms of national unity, i would say that such a system would be disasterous for any large nation.

@wigglyk2796 you forgot that the meaning of the term "Union" means that the states that constitute the union have no choice to leave the Union - as per the architect of the constitution Dr BR Ambedkar. As long as this constitution exists and is accepted by the citizens of India, that will remain true. The states have no special rights to leave the Union, only the people have the right to raise such concerns. States are mere entities designed to ease administrative burden... That is the fundamental difference between USA and Republic of India - any person or political entity that questions this unity and seriously threatens it will face the full force of the law in all its manifestations. The will of the people alone gives legitimacy to the constitution, not the will of the states. Also all states dont get equal representation, they get proportional representation. All citizens should get equal representation, not all states...

By that metric, why should social upliftment programmes be implemented when socially backwards populations contribute less to the exchequer? Why not instead spend monye only on honest taxpayers in the same proportion as the tax payed by each individual? How come lofty values of equality of all citizens and the need for respect and lack of discrimination based on economic status spring up only when it comes to rich vs poor and not when it comes to rich states vs poor states? It is a great irony that so called progressive socialist regional parties want a division of funds based on the contribution of states they control when it suits their economic interests. These same parties cry economic inequality every other time to target political opponents. I guess such lofty values are espoused only when the money is inaccessible to them but abandoned at the slightest chance they get of obtaining the same. This argument just proves how hollow their ideology is and how their only goal is political power ...

@isuzu343 fundamental duties exist and do need to be implemented without being imposed to curtail the fundamental rights of individuals. What you are suggesting is that regional parties that have hold over in just one state will prioritize their existence over the integrity of the nation and the basic value of equality of all citizens of India. If these regional parties take actions in this direction, would you support them? What can be said about the values of such people who prioritize their political power over the integrity of the nation and the sanctity of the constitution under whom they have sworn an oath to serve the people? Even an empty threat by them in this regard must be taken with utmost seriousness and condemned openly by every citizen of India who beleives in the fundamental values enshrined in the constitution... or do you think such veiled threats at threatening the integrity of India and its co stitution if their political demands to cement their influence through morally banckrupt narratives deserve acceptance by the common populace? I can never accept this and am vehemently opposed to such selfish political narratives.

@surajbiradar9827 i defend only my viewpoint. Since my viewpoint is unique I have to defend it vehemently. If parties of south and north east want to survive then they must start appealing to people of other states too. That is my fundamental argument - letting these state/regional parties enjoy power in one area while they deny other political parties will lead to eventual division of country. Hindi imposition is bad, but just by upholding the idea of one citizen one vote, hindi will not be imposed automatically on everyone. Isnt treating every citizen of India equally important to you? This fear of hindi imposition is an example of the fears used by such regional partie to ensure they stay in power in their home state and ensure they dont have to work hard for developement of people of other states. Best example is DMK. All they need is TN , they dont even care about people of Andra or of NE. Such selfish people who divide in ne of language just to ensure they win again and again in their state are the true enemy of the unity of India. Only this implementation will force them to change their policy and ideology tobappeal to every Indian - otherwise they gent enough power to sustain their families and businesses by simply alienating the people of their state.

@suchender801 you mean no more transfer of money from ANY states? Because southern states arent special in my eyes. That is problematic for national integration, but adding in a few more ministries - with reduced powers to provide autonomy to states - is an acceptable solution to me. Your proposal is amusing though - you are essentially saying that a delimitation according to the core values of the constitutione can be digested and tolerated if the new lok sabha is rendered toothless. It reaffirms again and again that the opposition to this exercise has little to do with fairness and everything to do with preserving political influence and power of small regional parties that have no future outside their home states...

@Haxerous can you give a breakdown of proportion in terms of population? In fact why not impose such measures in all states after verifyint the TF R of all communities? From what i hear, the TFR of communities in malappuram is very high too. We wouldnt want population imbalance within states also now, would we?

That is why people who study in kerala can so easily move to karnataka and work in the thriving IT ecosystem without any visa, passport or threat to life or legal action. If you pay attention to differences then you will see only them and will be blind to the similarities and beauty of the Indian constitution that says all Indians are equal under the eyes of the Law and the State

Lol TN and karnataka , TN and kerala cannot even decide how to share water properly or decide how to repait the mullaperiyar dam. And you think republic of south India is a viable alternative if this exercise will happen. What kind of a fools paradise do you live in? And if modinomics was so bad, the cpim of kerala wont be joiming hands with the BJP to push forward the vizhinjam port project or any other similar project.

@borko5474 national parties like the BJP still appeal to southern voters and mould their policies according to the political situation of southern states - be it on issues like sabarimala or the silverline project of keral, or the upcoming adani port in trivandrum (a issue which got bjp and cpim on the same page and made the hypicritical socialists support a capitalist) . UP and bihar decide their policies based on the needs of people of UP and bihar. But if you were to understand that political parties are different from states - that no state is the ancestral property of any political party, then you wouldnt have made such a stupid nonsensical comment. BJP can appeal to tamil people by saying that they will respect tamil language and culture and rejuvinate tamil nadu to the stature during the rule of the cholas. What can the DMK do to appeal to northern India after decades of harping the narrative that tamil is special, tamil people are special, they are the original inhabitants of civilised India that were driven out by the barbaric vedic aryans, etc. How can they then go and beg the descendents of their sworn enemy the vedic aryans for votes and not lose face among thw people that they have brainwashed at home? Proportional representation was always vased on population and the principle on "one person one vote". It was never about one state one vote or any other such similar promises. The states themselves will get less voice in national affairs because they are of less population. That is in line with the fundamental idea of one person one vote. Some parties atleast understand this realoty - like KCRs party that has been renamed to Bharata Desam Party - because appealing to just the telugu people is shortsightedness in the long run. This shortsightedness is not uniqur to bjp opponents but also to ideological allies and former allies like the shiv sena or the shiromani akali dal. Proper delimitation true to the value of the constitution is necessary to ensure that these shortsighted political entities are bot allowed to shore up their power using/promoting fractured regional identities and are forced to appeal to a greater group of people - from any and all parts of India. As for representation of people of southern states and making sure that their voices are heard, what is stopping them from making more children? Isnt that the same argument you use when concerns regarding the rise of a mimority population is raised by the majority? And why should a persons vote count for any less just because he was born in north India?

@borko5474 as for dissilusionmemt of the people ofnthebsouth, if that could happen according to your logic, it would have already happened. The road to delhi already passes through UP. The fact that states have exclusive powers in some sectors like education and health has ensured that this doesnt happen. Renegotiating the terms of engagement between the centre and the states is another thing, but wanting to ensure that the votw of a indian from northern states count numerically less than a Indian from southern states is the most despicable political idea that can be conceived in modern Independent India. Threatening alienation of people is just another bogey to attempt to shore up what influence you have without any long term vision or long term desire for greater integration of regional identities into one single national identities.

Anything less that delimitation based on population is saying that the votes of some citizens is worth less than others - that is against rhe fundamental values of equality of all citizens of India enshrined in the constitution. If regional parties consider all Indians as equal then they should have no problem with the delimitaion exercise based on population. But if tbeir political ideology is region specific, divisive and excludes citizens of India from other regions, they have no choice but to oppose delimitation exercise to maintain their political relevance. Most parties that oppose a logical delimitation exercise just cannot expand their political base to other states. They have no vision or ideology to appeal to all citizens of India, all they have is selfish desire to hold on to their regional bastions and survive on the toil of the people they can manipulate...

@isuzu343 if rewarding bad behaviour only encourages it then why are poor people still being given state support despite them not coming out of poverty despite 75 years of independence from the british? Why is the honest taxpayer being punished despitr being less than 5% of the population? Why not just spend the gains of income tax only on the honest taxpayer in proportion of the tax payed by them? If i use such logic then suddenly arguments like "we should not discriminate the poor" spring up. But such argume ts are co viniently forgotten now because your idea of fairness is being weaponised to maintain the status quo of regional powers rather than work forward towards a common shared prosperous future.

@surajbiradar9827 i think the problems need to be fixed but the peculiar nature of the acronymn should not be ignored or brushed under the carpet seeing how it has been weaponised to shape political narratives by a wide variety of divisive forces. Such a mistake would be as stupid as forgetting the nareative about the hindu rate of economic growth. The acronymn stems from prejudice and tackling that prejudice is imporrant too, though not more important than fixing the problems faced. Fixing problems requires self confidence and mustering self confidence is difficult when an entire group of states are referred to as "sickly" or "diseased". So i guess instead of addressing one or the other, a true problem solver would address both since the effect of that would be greater than the sum of addressing each seperately...
