Recently the punjab and haryana high court upheld the marriage of a 16 year old muslim girl to a 26 year old muslim adult saying that consensual marriage was permitted for girls who had acheived puberty under islamic law. A islamic law that uses ayesha as an example for consent is incapable of understanding or acknowledging concepts like "grooming" or " reasonable consent". Such a society can be brought to the modern age only through proper legal system and that is why ucc is needed.

@kukulkhaan if we have reasonable consent girls wont cry since the girls will be mature adults. If the girl was a 9 year old set to be married to a 52 year old , she might cry - but that is the type of sick situation that must be made illegal by law.

@kukulkhaan first learn basic maths, 9-3=6 and not 3. Second we shouldnt judge the past by modern standards, we should judge by science which doesn not change over a period of 1400 years. Third we should not only judge people feom 1400 years ago using modern standards, we should also not blindly follow people from 1400 years ago blindly and claim one man was the ideal man - especially not a illiterate slav owner who had 4 wives and multiple sex slavees, who married his own cousin after making her marry his adopted son and then making her divorce his adopted son after seeing her naked - all of which he claimed was the will of allah. And finally, i dont see hindu women crying at the time of wedding in todays world, but even now we can see 6 uear old being sold into marriage to 52 year old in islamic emirate of afghanistan - all because those illiterate people follow their illiterate prophet...
