If inflation is running at 12% then it's a 3% payrise John.

@Jimbo_Jumbo Yes, thought you might mention that. People that know feck all about the railway usually bring it up. The DLR has a walkway alongside it for evacuation purposes. It also only holds 284 passengers at full capacity. A deep level tube train doesn't have a walkway along side. ( probably about a foot if you are lucky )If passengers need to be evacuated then the only way is forward. The tracks are live with up to 750vdc, grease, points, trip hazards abound. An S stock train holds 1350 passengers at full capacity. A main line train is either diesel or in most cases powered by electricity- 25,000vAC They can travel at over 100mph and can take up to 3 miles to stop in bad conditions. Looking at the tube ( seeing its the nearest to the DLR ) how would you detrain over a thousand people in a deep level tube tunnel without a driver? And let's make it interesting - one of the compressors has now started to smoke. I await your perfect answer Jimbo....

Should be taken back from the people who got it.
2
Sorry Jimbo but you've been gaslit. If you think trains can work fully driverless and automated you are deluded.

He isn't. If you bothered to check the clip properly it clearly says EX Assistant General Secretary. Eddie Dempsey has that position now.
1
Look at his title Shawn. It says EX the clues in the title...

You should apply being such an expert

I just think of all the train drivers working through the pandemic and said private sector workers on furlough for a year, which has in some cases proved that companies do not need half of their staff, so it would appear the other way round Lee. Then you have the self employed who wack everything through the accountants....
1
@lal2300 Takes up to 12 months to fully qualify as a driver LAL . ( ex cab monkey instructor - retired )
1
Why can't train drivers be paid the same as a professional footballer?
1
@GloriaL28 Ah. We are getting somewhere now Gloria. Jealousy is a terrible trait to have.
1
@GloriaL28 Not many in the Private sector have the responsibilities of a train driver. They are getting paid for not only what they do but what they know.
1
@GloriaL28 Nonsense. Just because you don't earn 60k don't think that people who do aren't entitled to a pay rise and decent conditions.
1
@GloriaL28 How many people have jumped in front of your desk?
1
@GloriaL28 Well, you are obviously not as well paid as train drivers Gloria because it seems to have upset you that they earn 60k. Either way and whatever you do, it looks like you've fallen for the old trick of people on a £1000 an hour telling those on £10 an hour that it's the people on £35 an hour who are the problem! And yes, of course you are entitled to a pay rise but it ain't any train drivers fault that you haven't got one IS IT!
1
Don't be silly David. The plonkers will still vote for them anyway.
1
How many people have you had throwing themselves in front of your wheelbarrow Phil?
1
@phily8093 There you go Phil. I had 6. Luckily my low skills taught me how to handle it....
1
Julia won't have to worry about trains over the Christmas period sitting on the piste in Chamonix drapped in her Moncler coat....
1
@dinglebat63 Apologies for the late reply as I’ve been in Whistler Snowboarding for 3 months. Personally I would not go to Chamonix to ski as there far too many Middle class media luvies out there. I only go there in the summer climbing months. Don’t wear Moncler - wouldn’t last 5 minutes where I go.
1
Never mind. You can wack everything thru your accountant and claim back loads of VAT. Not to mention those class 2 peanut N.I. contributions and any cash in hand money like my builder mates all do....
1
You should ask your postie how he/she gets any weekends or bank holidays off. Also ask him/her if they have refused to take any pay increases negotiated by their union over the years? After that ask them if they get maternity/paternity pay, and also what about contractual hours and protection against any form of unfair dismissal. Maybe that all those things fell out of a big xmas cracker...

What's that got to do with rail workers? Are you comparing someone who operates a till to someone who operates a 250 tonne passenger train that holds up to 1300 people?
1
Yes. When you next vote please avoid the Tories as they have ruined this country.👍
1
Why are you comparing a ( I presume )Train drivers job to that of a factory workers? Have a word with your USDAW rep if your money's crap. Nothing to do with the RMT. Just shows that you are another one that's been got at by the RW press.
1
Stupid comment. Do you run keys down nice cars in the street as well?
1
@johncraggs3658 That was to the O.P. John but your comment is silly a well. Most people who live in London are sitting on a property worth a million. Funny how no one mentions radio or newsreaders money. I'd say all of them are on 6 figures to spout nonsense and wind up the working classes against each other - hence the reason Brexit was pushed thru and still people refuse to see the elite are just sitting on their arses rubbing their hands.
1
Police yes. Dr's no.
1
How would you know that rail workers are ' work shy ' if you've never done the job? If you lost yours because you wouldn't have a covid jab that's your fault no one else's. Stop being a Karen, Karen.
