@chair12454 Those minimum wage earners - do they get weekends/bank holidays off? Do they have rights against harassment at work? Do they get a meal break? Holidays? Sick pay? Where do you think those conditions came from? It wasn’t from the goodness of their employers hearts but unions over the years fighting for better pay and conditions. No train staff want to go out on strike as they lose pay but when the management refuses to sit down and pay a fair pay deal then they have no choice. I know because I was one of those union members for 33 years.

@DJHen91 The job title is train operator.

Drivers and nurses are two totally different jobs for different companies. If you’ve never done either job you know fkall.
2
@nigelfarley814 But guess who went to work whilst the country sat at home on free money?…
2
Please stop comparing bus and train drivers. Bus drivers are paid less because the job is less intensive.
2
@JosuaNeil-q4x The DLR is totally different. You can’t compare that to the London Underground.

@keithrobinson5752 Total Daily Mail rubbish
1
Train drivers or any other tube workers aren’t bankers - they don’t get bonuses.
1
@macwilko What would you do on a fully loaded tube train (1300 passengers ) in a deep level tube (Northern line) at 8.30am in August with no driver and a main line burst on the front unit?? Don’t forget the trains stacked up behind ( in your world with no drivers either )
1
@macwilko Nah, just a retired Driver / instructor with 39 years in. Keep your Daily Mail waffle rattling around your noggin if it helps you sleep bud. I’ve seen nigh on everything in the real world. Everytime the Micky mouse news channels report on pay deals you Auto experts all come a rolling out😂
1
@macwilko As I’ve said, it doesn’t matter where you’ve been and what you’ve seen in other countries. Large parts of the underground system are still impossible to make into a fully driverless, automatic system. Would need PED doors at every station. They can’t even get wheelchair access on most of the tube. Driverless trains won’t happen in our lifetime. The Elizabeth line was 4 years over in opening and 4 billion over in costs and after all that it still needs a driver. Safe travels.

Those damned red and Green signals…
1
@everready800 What job do you do? Do you have a union? If so, are you a member?
1
@philsreef746 why not apply? Best of luck.
1
@philsreef746 You don’t need to be in any union. Wherever you are getting your info from I’d throw it away.
1
@philsreef746 Hard to spot with some of the bollox in most of the comments on here. The same old rubbish is trotted out by the same plonkers everytime a pay deal is trying to be negotiated.
1
Silly comment, but then this is TalkTv after all.
1
@neillgardner4783 No drivers get 85k first off and if 85k would last you 4 years then you’ve under sold yourself. The Tories and reform love cap doffers like you.
1
Breaking news. Overweight bloke that sits behind a desk for 2 hours a day on 6 figures complains about people taking strike action over 3.8%
1
@jrr3613 No they are operators. No driver checks tickets.
1
@macwilko Most tube lines not have sections of ATO but guess what happens when one of those trains sits down with a defect or operational problem. Yep - you need a driver to take control and rectify the problem. The bloke used the DLR as an example which is normal for people who have no clue of how the railways work. A fully loaded S stock holds 1350 passengers. A DLR train has less than half and the complete line has a walkway running alongside it. A tube line doesn’t. If xrail being so new has full ATO capabilities why don’t they just run it driverless? Let me know when you’ve worked it out…

Rather than trot out the same waffle maybe do some research
1
Stop moaning.
1
The Tories started doing that last year
1
You are talking total bollox scooby. And you are getting the mainline confused with the London Underground. Thick as shite.
1
No it hasn’t.
1
Yea, but builders are finished by 2pm and in the pub spending their cash in hand money whilst gloating they don’t pay any NI or proper taxes.
1
@RobinHomer-p6n What’s tube workers pay deals got to do with other things going on with the UK? Nothing.
1
@SEPK09 Most drivers don’t give a toss about others opinions. It’s what’s put on the dinner table that counts.
1
What happens when a train has a defect?
1
@everready800 Opinions and arseoles - everyone has one. Every now and again you get an arseole with an opinion just like the OP.😊
1
@macwilko Nothing to do with that. The infrastructure won’t allow full ATO on all lines. You are also comparing other countries with more modern metro systems with the oldest metro system in the world. Like me getting in a Ford Fiesta and trying to compare it to a Porsche Taycan.
