  578.  @nigden1 Firstly,You need to read article 98 of the UN convention of the sea. Secondly, no one is illegal or bogus and those terms are just rhetoric from the likes of Patel onwards, probably where you heard the things about maritime law. Where people seem to still get confused is that there are no official legal routes to come here and apply for asylum, you have to be standing on UK soil (or sand!) to do this. Maybe where the term “illegal immigrants” has come from. No one is deemed illegal until they have been processed that way. An asylum seeker can cross as many safe countries they want so you are wrong in saying the French are responsible. We can no longer send anyone back to the first safe country they entered into as we are no longer in the EU and the Dublin agreement lll no longer applies to us. Ireland could use that still and I’m not sure why they aren’t doing so, unfortunately both Labour & Cons didn’t apply these rules properly but I think If you look at the official figures Labour actually sent more back than the Tories did. I’d put money on it if the government were allowed to use the Dublin treaty they would as that would be a lot better way of giving Rwanda millions for nothing. Why not send any asylum seeker straight to the Falkands? I’m sure once word got out that the weathers even worse than here they might slow down in coming? So essentially as I’ve told all my leaver builder mates moaning, they put the X in the wrong box and it’s their fault.

  631.  @ancietman But countries like Germany still have most of their manufacturing in place. The old chestnut of they will need us more than we need them doesn’t wash. TheUK just bolts bits together now for other countries. Everywhere is in recession but people will still want to buy German cars. The Tories have sold everything off, all our utilities are owned mainly by Europe with the Aussies and China being major shareholders in some water companies. London is now over 52% owned by the Dubai royal family including 23% of Heathrow and places that should have never been sold like Chelsea Barracks. The EU red tape you mention is mainly because of them paying farmers large subsidies to leave parts of their farms in fallow which they’ve ignored. Why should a farmer get diesel at much lower costs than the public? At the end of the day people were warned but insisted it would be better, yes we’ve had Covid & Ukraine etc but on top of that the countries imposed trading restrictions on itself which is utter madness! Why do I want to eat beef that’s taken a week to get here and pumped full of hormones when I can go to the meat market in London and buy meat at cost? The actual price rises seen so far are nothing compared to what’s coming as three different stages of non tariff price rises are happening this year. You are seeing tubs of spreadable butter in security boxes at over £7 for half a kilo ffs. It’s been a shit show end of. The excuse of “what about over there” isn’t really a concern as I live in the UK and an only concerned with putting food on my families table and not someones in Berlin. All that aside Brexit was only about making the wealthy even richer at the expense of us plebs on the street. Yes, it’s happened but to keep trying to find excuses to say we are better off is delusional.

2420.  @nigden1 Tell me - if the recent immigration act criminalised it how many people seeking asylum have been arrested on entering the UK by boat (small or large) train, bus, lorry, coach or car? The human rights act would supersede any immigration law especially as we are signatories of the 1951 refugee convention and under article 31 ( if memory is correct ) states that anyone claiming asylum has to be processed and treated fairly. If I remember Braverman and a few of her friends tried to get everything sorted but even though they are qualified in various areas of law they don’t possess any common sense thus threw lots of tax payers money at sending people to Rwanda and no one ( despite your thoughts ) has been arrested. I was hoping that I’d found someone who was like me and a bit flexible in the approach to the problems we face today but your comment about the UK doing just great and the EU failing apart has to be the funniest thing I’ve heard today so thanks for that one. As for my mates 2 out of 7 who are in the building trade are doing ok although the rest are packing it up with one losing so much work because of the price of materials he’s £25k in debt as he’s got a yard full of materials but no customers as they can’t afford the increase in the costs these days. We are forecast to be the second lowest performing economy this year under zee Germans who still have all their manufacturing in place and lots of people still waiting for their motors over here. Germany also own most of their utilities. My son lives in Berlin and says it’s much better than here in London. Your segment about paying 2 governments didn’t bother me as the £19 a month it cost me was well worth it. Those poor farmers in Wales now looking down the barrel as they’ve lost all their subsidies. Oh well, never mind. 😂

2735.  @saraandivanevans6881 Brexit was never going to work. Unfortunately the people that voted for it didn’t really understand the implications of being a third country because they were too deep in the RW gaslighting. Brexit supporters now constantly go on about it being everyone else’s fault but their own and you’ve mentioned it on your comment. Time to take ownership of your mistake. We can’t send anyone anywhere now because of that status ( third country ) and this is why we are having record numbers coming here. You still see comments about safe countries and turning boats around because people really are that thick. Did you vote for the Tories thinking they actually cared for normal working class people? If you did then sorry but you got what you deserved but everyone has had to suffer because of it. Reform will be the same. One exception is that you won’t be able to vote for the leader as they aren’t a proper Democratic Party. Your membership fee of £25 goes straight into the directors bank accounts. They will also be doing their best to make our NHS fully privatised and they’ve already mentioned about private healthcare in their manifesto. How will they be able to give everyone a 20k tax allowance when the UK is already on its arse? Could it be by getting rid of any public healthcare/dentistry? Whether you like it or not Labour would be the only party that would keep our NHS in the state system. Of course years of underfunded dodgy deals will take years to sort out. No point in believing any promises from any party the main goal is to work with what we’ve got and try and do the best to repair it. Voting Reform will be a vote for a load of posh rich people to keep deregulating everything to suit themselves. Promises of stopping boats would only be possible by rejoining the EU and start enforcing the Dublin agreement. If you don’t want that then you will have to accept what’s happening now.

3714.  @jumblestiltskin1365  Well Jumble there you go. In the case of the little englanders running around now you're classed as a foreigner both before Brexit and after. You are living proof that deciding on someone's decent because they have earnt that respect regardless of where they come from or the colour of their skin they should be treated accordingly. You've benefited from a decent immigration policy with the added bonus of being able to still move around Europe freely unlike a born and bred Englishman. All my Irish mates all voted Brexit then went straight out and applied for their Irish passport despite only one of them only ever stepping foot in the gaff once. Unfortunately you mentioned that the Windrush generation have been given special treatment, quite the opposite in fact. Some coming over in the late 40s and early 50s working and contributing for years to the UK and then not so long ago getting a knock on the door at 5am telling them their paperwork never existed and then rounded up like a criminal and put on a plane back to a country where some of them have never even visited or were there when they were 3 years old. Some people think they shouldn't be allowed here. I had one conversation with a muppet at work over this and when i mentioned that they have a legal right to be here he went down the step on a boat route you did earlier. Hadn't even heard of the British nationality act. Just had an opinion which as usual was bollox. I say be careful what you wish for - have a butchers at the new borders bill and clause 9 which is Patels new baby . Another hypocrite that wouldn't have been here under the current rules. Let's hope you don't ever get a knock on the door my friend, with this nasty bunch of bstards anythings possible. 👍

3732.  @joebloggs3551  Sorry Simon but that controlling borders was always a load of bollox, another soundbite to get everyone of a certain mindset wound up. We always had control of our borders but both the tories and Labour never applied the rules correctly. Not sure about you but whenever I travel abroad I always get asked to see my passport. Pre brexit we had more rights to send people back than now, we also had border force in France but of course they were shipped out after the transition period. Probably one reason why France are now waving them thru in droves. I don't feel anymore sovereign, in fact if you're Irish or have dual nationality/settled status you now have more rights than if you are English! I've never voted tory, the main reason is that my MP is like most of them in that he consistently votes against money being paid out for the people that actually need it but is happy to vote for wealthy tax dodgers. Funny when some my friends spout the socialist bollox but were happy to sit at home for best part of the year on furlough money. Ironic no? I want the best for the uk but Brexit has damaged the uk beyond repair. You can't say you are being a patriot then vote for people and family companies to lose their jobs and businesses. Take subsidies away from poorer areas and complain about the cost of being in the EU then look at how much the last 6 years has cost to leave. The only people to gain are the wealthy and if you take a good look most of them are either decendants of immigrants or immigrants themselves. Then you have people like lawson, lilley etc all telling you to vote Brexit as they apply for French residency or Mogg, Dyson and the gang all moving their companies outside of the UK. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work it out Simon.

4188. @John Sidwell  The salaries aren't as you say massive. Higher than other jobs yes but not huge. You can't compare one job to something that's completely different John as that's just doing what the government and the media have led you to do. Nurses seems to be the current favourite. The pay increases were always linked to RPI at the time ( February) and then the unions agreed with the TOCs a 3 or 4 year deal. A few years back on the last year the RPI went to 6% and the agreement was 2% over RPI when it was forecast to be 1.5% so we ended up with an 8% pay increase. The media then spent weeks winding everybody up but never mentioned anything about it being the last year of a 4 year deal and that the forcasters got it wrong. Not sure where you worked but i bet you didn't expect to be paid the same money after X amount of years after you first joined the company. I certainly didn't. The core workers are the reason the train companies return huge payouts to their top brass, its only fair that the people that get up in all weathers and all hours be paid accordingly. It’s a highly responsible and hard job despite what certain idiots will lead you to believe. I’m talking about ALL jobs not that of just a driver. If you look at the London Underground then it’s the oldest metro system in the world which receives the least amount of subsidies in Europe from central government hence the sky high fares. Go to Europe and you can travel for cheap, and that’s because their governments actually care about their people unlike our shower of posh idiots.

4201.  @SuperBobbster  Not so Bobb. Traditionally those picking jobs would have been done by students or others wanting to earn a bit of cash for travelling. My son did exactly that one year and now works tables to top up his Uni money. Same went for the EU workers wanting to travel and visit the UK and with some of them they used it as a stepping stone to get a better job, with that they pay taxes and N.I. into the UK and if you bother to check the facts and not get your info from the usual suspects then the out of the original 3.8 million EU intake it was 800k pre Brexit immigrants that ended up claiming some sort of benefit. Of course you might protest on that one and yes if the Tories had played the rules correctly they would and should have been sent back, but of course we know they weren't. Either way the remaining 3 million were paying into the UKs coffers to the tune of FOUR times what their country people were taking out so essentially they were paying for them and then some. This takes me to your point of sending money ( Let's say wages ) back to their birth country. Sorry Bob but that's their business not yours or mine. If I wanted to send some money to family who live elsewhere what's that got to do with anyone? It's my money and I will do what I want with it. As for the building trade 90% of my friends work in various trades. None of them are skint, in fact 2 of them earn so much money they spend the winter months in the sunshine to ' lose ' a fair bit of cash in hand money. Another of them has 4 holidays a year with 2 in the Caribbean. One of my mates was working PAT testing on the Spurs ground and earning 5k a week. So with that in mind who would you say is more patriotic to the UK? The brit builder who doesn't claim everything and spends a lot of his money abroad or the immigrant that pays taxes and N.I. and spends his time in the UK?? Where you might have the hump is with the usual crowd saying they are undercutting local builders. Where I live the local builders I've used have all taken the piss in some way - turning up late, leaving early, taking far too long to do a job or in my last case where I watched a landscaper snap 3 porcelain tiles that cost me £48 each because he was too tight to buy the correct blade for his saw and grinder. I ended up telling him to fk off and ended up giving the rest of the job to a Polish builder who was top notch and didn't keep trying to change the price he gave me. As for other roles like bar work, restaurants, coffee shops etc the money isn't good enough so the locals would rather stay on UC than do some work. That's no fault of any foreigner but the current government Bobb.

4362.  @Boxersboy-um1fd  Thanks BB. Sorry I missed the question about the 20% drop. The main problem is this - unlike other jobs the railways require a certain number of staff in various locations for safety reasons etc ( think back to Kings x ) whilst it may seem to Joe public that people are standing or sitting around they aren't. They are there if ( and often when ) the shit hits the fan. As for train drivers you will need a number of extras ( spares ) to cover lateness, sickness, annual leave, or training and over the years the management ( ones out of uni not the old school go up thru the grades ones) have best tried to cut these to the minimum only to find out that trains were cancelled and thus important people like your son not being able to get to work etc. In another way think of Theresa May getting shot of 21,000 fully trained and experienced police officers getting the boot over 6 years then having a new and improved bullshitter tell the gullible, pot bashing, clappy clap clapping public that they are going to introduce 20,000 new ones to hopefully stem the tide of the yuuts going around shanking one another because they live on the other side of the village! And next year flairs are making a comeback as well! You can't run the railway with skeleton staff. They know this but keep trying. One reason I'm glad I'm away from it all. We've narrowed down the free travel from extended grandparents twice removed down to your spouse and children whilst still in education but you are still not happy - hence the ES comment. Tbh I'm not bothered what you or anyone else reads but the media people keep forgetting that they report on one thing but haven't told the public that those travel expenses always get paid back! It may change, it may not. Over 3 decades driving the things I try to avoid them at all costs and get the Bentley out of the garage - far more civilised. Good luck to you or anyone else if they get perks. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. You do realise though that to get the free travel and similar wages all you had to do was apply for a job on the tube BB - you certainly sound like you could cope my friend. I get your point about the email, it would be nice to have a pint and a chat with someone who can give a bit and take a bit without it decending into tribal warfare. Unfortunately I'm far too busy testing flip flops for my sponsor these days and am doing my very best to finally get out of the UK for good. Great to have a chat. Please give your family and especially your lad my best ( my mum in law worked in the NHS too as Nurse& midwife) I hope one day he too gets far better wages than now and maybe even free travel. They certainly deserve it. 👏 Obrigado. S.J.

4364.  @Boxersboy-um1fd  It seems BB that ( as you mention ) you are the proverbial ES reader so I'm now clear on knowing why you think the way you do. You can keep going on about family travel as much as you like, yes the ES does bring this up around 10 times a year ( or used to as I flicked thru it changing ends ) it's a staff perk that gets you people frothing at the mouth. There was talk about taking these back at some point but seeing as management get these too we will see. As previously mentioned it doesn't cost you anything regardless how you try to spin it. The same would go for taxes and who pays what. I don't use the arts or watch football but no doubt I might have contributed to it in some form over the years. Likewise I voted to remain in Europe and an now paying for the extra costs of shopping, delivery charges, travel etc etc. It is what it is. The state pension and a private pension are 2 total separate entities. I've never claimed for anything since leaving school so I'm just a entitled to one than anyone else. Thanks for your advice about answering things but tbh I'm typing this on a mobile whilst having a crap as it helps pass the time. I have far more important things to do like swimming in the sea to write everything down and take it all piece by piece so please forgive me on that one my friend. Yes, I did notice you mentioned control room staff. I wasn't being funny but I said POLICE officers get free travel. That role would come under some form of admin and you wouldn't have a warrant card. I used to have a friend who worked in the same role in the shires ( no longer live in London) and she was always moaning about the same thing. I told her the simple way was to apply for the railway in some form. ( she now works for the rail in a control room and gets free travel - woopdeedoo) As I've also mentioned the other roles getting some form of public help I will leave it for you to check out, either way if we were to take railworkers pensions away I'd expect the same in all other jobs and with this shower of shite you won't be surprised what they have planned. You could be working until 75 to get that pension the way things are going. As for who does what you are right that I've not had to deal with a hostage situation although we were involved in training that went thru it. I did however evacuate 3 trains full of people at the height of 7/7 as the fire brigade stood and watched from afar as they were waiting for their relevant checks to be able to help out. I've had a hand gun poked in my boat, spat at on 3 occasions. Knives pulled, and 6 suicide attempts, a few train fires thrown in for good measure so it's not just pressing buttons etc. As for the driver who was drunk as you say I cannot comment as know nothing about it. You are required to book on with a duty manager so seems odd that would have been missed. Who knows but if you read about it in the ES then I'd take most things with a pinch of salt. Dumps finished, I'm back to top up my tan. Take care BB 👍

4367.  @Boxersboy-um1fd  I find some of your responses a bit odd. You berate rail workers for booking on at work thru the pandemic but then ask me to tell you what people who were paid by the taxpayer to sit at home in their gardens should be doing! You really seem to have a problem with staff travel being extended to immediate family even though it doesn't cost you a penny. What about bank staff and concessions with mortgages, loans, etc? That's OK I take it. Strange that you complain about rail workers pensions yet don't mention how many billions the banks fleeced from the taxpayer? As for NHS pensions, the old rate ( now changed in the CARE system) their pensions were topped up by 20.6% As you think rail workers pensions are too inflated do I take it you feel the same for all public sector employees? Shall we stop contributing to Teachers, police, fire, military and Nurses to pensions the latter which would cost your son money in his retirement? Train drivers can't work 60 hours as they are governed by many safety regulations. That applies to the notion of train drivers earning 40k extra thru overtime which has been reported and is total fiction. A train driver has 3 times more people sitting behind them as an airline pilot. If you work 60 hrs a week ask yourself why you need to, Don't question someone who has the lives of 1350 people in the peak sitting behind them. I find the use of exorbitant pay a bit misleading. I have friends who earn far more with the highest earning £260k a year for sitting at a desk in front of a computer - that's exorbitant, not someone who gets up at all hours in all weathers to get the public to their places of work. I don't harp on about it as it is what it is. As you've said we have differences in opinions. One thing you should look at though is not why a train driver earns 60k but that why a nurse, teacher, fire or police person etc doesn't. You seem to be saying that train staff are overpaid for the job they do ( even though you've never done it yourself ) then complain that your son has to use other means to travel to work on strike days, unfortunately that's his problem. When I took a job on the railway I knew I would have to be at work when public transport wouldn't be running so I used a big metal box with a rubber wheel in each corner i.e. A car. That was the same when a different union was on strike too. Strikes are advertised well in advance, the same for engineering works which the public seem to always have a problem with. Finally, with regards to the unions, If your son gets any weekends off, annual leave, paternity pay, bank holidays, anti discrimination law protection, pensions etc where do you think those conditions came from? And who lost money fighting for them? Stephen jon 2022.

4368.  @Boxersboy-um1fd  Wow. After reading that lot I'm well and truly asleep rather than awake. War & Peace springs to mind. 🤣 Son left home at 19 and lost his pass straight away as was no longer in education. Hope that's acceptable. Police - Whether you're on or off duty, you'll enjoy free travel on London Underground and buses, seven days a week. Travel passes are issued after completion of initial police learning in week 12. You can also opt in to our rail travel scheme for heavily discounted rail travel up to 70 miles from central London. Straight off the met police website. Info on btp is probably on theirs too. I worked on the gateline for a brief period after a suicide and was told that police travel free on production of a warrant card so not sure what info you got. Maybe you still begrudge them getting free travel - I don't, as should NHS and Fire service but I don't make the rules up. Tax - not interested in what or who pays in or where its going as we would be here all night. I gave up years ago worrying about who pays what as most of my self employed mates are the biggest piss takers. We constantly have conversations similar to your taxpayer nonsense, again the self employed getting away with murder. I paid 36 years in and have never claimed for anything since leaving school. I don't go on about the taxpayer picking up anyone's bill. You clearly have a beef with the taxpayer paying towards the country's transport system but have been part of an institution that has caused most of the countries problems in the past. Seems odd that you can pick up your pension but begrudge others one? As for who done what during the pandemic I could only confirm what my old colleagues told me as I retired shortly before the pandemic kicked in. All were required to book on for duty. You cant just pick up another job ( like in a bank/office) as you have to hold the relevant safety licences. At the end of the day train staff went to work. Sorry if that it doesn't fit in with what you think but thats it. My problem with the covid nonsense was that nearly 12 million sat at home on " taxpayers " money whilst university students still paid 10k to do their courses from home. Being a taxpayer I'm paying for those people that sat in their gardens for best part of a year, most of them probably Conservative voters who decry anything socialistic! Nurses quite rightly have a huge responsibility I never said anything other. I said not to compare jobs - which is what you've done. Nurses ( have one in my family ) should be on a minimum of 45k imo but that's all down to the tories and the idiots that keep voting them in BB. No good clapping at 8pm then giving them a 1% payrise is it? My point was that because a train driver is on 60k that's not their fault that nurses earn much less is it? A tube driver has 1300+ people sitting behind them in the peak. I've lost count of trains I've evacuated over the years including 3 on 7/7 in the height of bombs going off. I've also had 6 suicide attempts. The last one taking months to get over. Its not as you said a " simple job" For those payrises, they were all agreed over ( normally ) a 4 year period. So if the RPI figures dictated that rail workers received an above inflation payrise then it's a bonus. Personally I'd be asking why someone like Andrew Haynes is getting 4 times more than the Prime minister of the UK. At this moment in time ( won't be long before Liz changes the law) you still have a right to withdraw your labour. My best goes out to all the hard working rail staff who get up in all weathers to fight against what's going on. Whilst you mention about 20% business is down I would have thought from your responses that you have more than half a brain BB. The railway requires a certain amount of staff in particular roles for safety reasons, one thing the bosses are trying to cut. It's funny that they don't ever look at cutting management grades as they have far too many now. Remember PM May over a 6 year period getting shot of 21,000 FULLY TRAINED AND QUALIFIED police officers to tick a box only for Bojo to spout a complete load of twaddle for his echo chamber following to believe that he's tackling crime by putting 20,000 new police ( that will need training ) on the streets! Same goes for 40 new hospitals, 350k a week going to your son and his colleagues blah blah blah. All nonsense to keep the Daily Fail readers happy. So. Hopefully I've answered a few of your questions. Best of luck to your son in the NHS. Tell him thank you for his hard graft thru the pandemic. ( I won't however be clapping ever)

4369.  @Boxersboy-um1fd  Thanks for your reply. The free travel for immediate family is called a spouse pass. On the Underground you used to have a choice of an oyster or privilege ticket for the mainline. That was a reciprocal agreement which was eventually taken away about 15 years ago. As I previously mentioned it's a perk which essentially doesn't cost you anything. The train runs anyway regardless if the Mrs is on there or not. The politicians/media ( the ones that all get free travel ) have been winding the public up about this for years. No one outside the workers home gets any concessions, when my eldest moved out and into work he lost his ticket the same day. Police force get free travel yet don't work for the railways. Again it doesn't cost you any money directly so not really important. Let's not go down the " taxpayer " rabbit hole as my taxes paid for lots of things I never used. You don't get any say in where it goes. A company car is still a perk. If you decide to get one and have to pay tax on it then it will still be a lot cheaper than if you purchased directly and with a good accountant you can get everything back. Same goes for meals, travel, clothing and any other expenses that can be wacked thru. My builder mates all do it. With regards to booking on then going home that's a fallacy and I'm not sure where you got that idea from. No manager's would allow you to do that. Emergency timetables were in place as trains still ran. Core staff turned up for work all the way thru the pandemic. It wasn't their fault that only 10% of trains ran, those decisions being higher up the food chain. Pensions on the rail have been final salary, again it seems that the media's constant echo of trying to turn Joe public against rail workers because of these has worked on you. Ask yourself why yours isn't as good. It won't be because train drivers are at fault but down to your employers/and the government. Again it is what it is, we all have a choice, my self employed friends constantly go on about it but seem to switch off when I remind some of them how many Caribbean holidays they have which are paid for with their cash in hand jobs earnings! Shall we all be piss poor in retirement? Seems that way. All spouted by people who will never have to worry about paying a gas bill that have got the people on the street frothing. As for whatever tax a driver pays its the same over whatever the set amount is decided by the government. 50k plus is in comparison a warehouse work good money but the responsibility of a train driver is far higher. Lots of my friends earn far more than I did. Mainly all of them in the building trades. Good luck to them. It is what it is. People should stop comparing jobs, especially nurses to train drivers. Everytime rail workers stage any form of action we see the usual comments from people who have clearly been gaslit by the RW media over the last decade. More proof of this comes in your last point about over inflation pay increases as on the railway most of the pay deals are struck on multi year deals and not yearly. They are linked to RPI so when we've had an increase over the rate of inflation that was because the pay deal was struck 2 years previously but the media doesn't mention this, just spouts numbers to get you wound up. Have you woke up yet? 😉

4370. Only immediate family get travel concessions. No extended family ( cousins 35 x removed etc ) get them. That's complete twaddle. Once kids are out of education and not living at home they are gone too. Lots of companies give discounts to their workers. It doesn't cost YOU anything if a spouse uses their family priv pass so why are you making a big thing about it? I don't get a discount buying a car but someone who works for a car company will get a discount. That's life. Pensions are good compared to other companies but are not all funded by the taxpayer as you mention.Maybe you should look at other companies/the government and why theirs aren't as good. As for the Taxpayer? Yes those that work on the railway pay taxes too - train drivers pay 40% on part of their earnings. N.I. contributions are amongst the highest unlike the self employed who pay peanuts. Central government give the LEAST amount of money to THE oldest metro system in the world. This might have something to do with us having a tory government and labour mayor. One reason the fares are high in comparison to europe. Don't believe me? Watch now what Wandsworth council tax payers have to pay next year once funding has been chopped to the bone in retaliation. UK has been gaslit as your comment proves, most of it sounds like you have regurgitated Grant Shapps twitter account. As for the pandemic, yes you are right in saying that a lot of trains didn't run but train staff were still required to book on for duty. That's why they were paid, unlike most of the office staff, management etc sitting in their gazebos taking 3 zoom meetings then putting their feet up on furlough just like nearly 12 million of the uk. Billions were pilled into the mainline ( private ) companies so the likes of the network Rail CEO could still be paid nearly 600k basic plus bonuses, the same for the shareholders. Time to wake up fella.

4418.  @johnou.k.3780  64k is industry standard. Pay talks normally involve a settlement of having pay increases over 3 or 4 years at a percentage over RPI. This year the pay increases started again - your beloved Tory party because of their incompetence have driven inflation to it's highest in over 40 years hence the railways not wanting to give pay increases at the current rate of inflation. This all the while that the CEO of the whole lot is on 600k plus bonuses. The clues in the title Johno - payrise, so forget the 10,11,12% and concentrate on what the cost of living is. Everyone should be entitled to one. All that talk about " get another job " is waffle. Your trouble is confusion - no good saying in your comments about rich people , their contributions and their entitlement to earn decent wages then try and belittle railworkers, post office staff, ambulance staff etc for wanting a piece of the pie. Shall everyone else work for shit money? What do YOU do? If you are on crap money blame yourself rather than look at train drivers. Your comment about me not doing anything is bollox. I spent 33 years in all weathers getting up at 2.50am to drive 60 miles to work, drive and instruct other new drivers, have responsibility far more than most people in lots of other jobs, have the threat of being abused, spat at, have knives pulled out on me and on one occasion a handgun shoved in my face. Not to forget people using the train I was operating at the time as a method of taking their own life ( I had 6 attempts with one fatality) and all the horrible dreams of taking someone's head off as happened in the last one. Terrorism threats ( worked 7/7 ) no weekends off for 5 years, no bank holidays apart from xmas day. Working with high voltage and the dangers it entails so yes, train drivers are worth every penny. Stop regurgitating the rubbish in the press. That just shows the gaslighting has worked on you. You've also come across that train workers aren't that important which is strange as so many People seem to be kicking off every time they are on strike because they can't get to where they want to be. I look at it this way - a banker turns up for a meeting 10 minutes late. What do they do? Yep, have the meeting 10 minutes later. Now apply that to a train sitting on a platform for 10 minutes past it's departure time because the drivers late. Who would you say is more important??

4457.  @chrissyboi88b  Shows how much about politics you know Chris as those notes have been left by outgoing PMs for years on all sides. As for bankrupting the country that started with Thatcher by getting as many people to buy their council houses and then selling off every little bit of our manufacturing as possible with the coal mines nothing to do with the hard working men and women but her decision to buy it cheaper from abroad as is often the case with everything hence our utilities all foreign owned and the working class mugs paying thousands to heat their homes. The only reason Labour had a massive defeat was Brexit and look how shit that’s gone with the north battered with Job losses and the prime example of 260 De la rue employees enjoying spending more time at home on UC because the ( Tory ) government sold off the contract to print your new super sovereign blue passport to a French/Dutch company who then subbed it out to the poles. Students and youngsters wanting to better themselves by going to university lumber themselves with a 60k plus debt, whilst abroad ( and in Scotland ) it’s either free or for minimum money. The latest recession was caused by 2 main things - giving money to people to sit at home for a year increasing inflation as money had to be printed faster than they could get the ink from Poland and the likes of liz truss and her fcked up budget plus the money spunked on dodgy contracts to friends of friends and with the common denominator that it was all caused by the tories not Corbyn as you deluded people seem to think. On the planet where I live the tories have chipped away at ruining this country so a few multi millionaire/billionaires can siphon off more for their weirdly named offspring - oneus-sixus etc etc but it’s not really their fault just you myopic people that are so desperate for it to be all white on the night that you will happily keep voting for people that don’t give a shite about you, me or anyone else that goes to work just to turn the lights on. Give your head a massive wobble fella.

5499.  @etpoculasacra Ah, that’s a bit like me having a grumble at my 40% tax I paid when I was working in London going to pay for someone’s roads in Stoke on Trent. Life doesn’t work like that, you don’t get a say and with the money I paid into the EU each month I got out far more in benefits that Ive now lost. Good value to have FoM and healthcare abroad plus the fact that trouble free trading meant my grocery bill was far cheaper than today where Butter is kept in plastic security boxes and basics like pasta have quadrupled in price. Yes, we paid money in but the areas that needed it got help ( back to Stoke who got 178m in EU subsidies when we were in to be replaced by 11 million from the Tories when we were out) etc Better exchange rates / stronger pound ( 1.48 € - £ night of Referendum crashing to 1.21, then 1.17 night after making Crispin odey and his mates 500 million over night ) That made the working class man & woman’s holidays 30% more expensive. The pound has never recovered. More money going out in running costs. My friend closed one of his companies down because it would have cost him 12k a month extra to bring parts in and out to the EU, that made 7 people unemployed. Companies moving abroad for the same reason ( operating costs) Immigration - the main issue of Brexit now gone thru the roof as we have no legal way of sending anyone anywhere. As for farmers getting their own say you know that’s never going to be the case, especially with the Tories. It was all empty promises and lies just like Brexit full stop. I could go on and on but it would be a complete waste of time as your head is too deep in the sand my friend.

5953.  @Zarken26  Great reply but I switched off as soon as I saw the words unaccountable oligarchy. I never saw the EU as some evil organisation like you patriots just something that made life easier. Sovereignty, control, armies etc all complete bollox to wind you people up. Unfortunately as for your ideas on manufacturing etc it's too late as UK plc was sold off years ago. We are a service country now that bolts bits together for other nations. As for immigrant workers, I haven't seen the brits climbing over each other to do all these jobs that were left, one reason the government flew in Romanian workers after brexit to pick the rotting fruit n veg in the fields. Last year on my holiday in the lakes pubs and restaurants were closing at 8pm due to no staff and no supplies. This was in August. All the owners were complaining that they were losing money. Being in the EU cost me £12 a month to which I saw as a complete bargain. Over Easter the Essex gang were at Palma airport complaining about the huge queues. This is just the start. I'm all for democracy, let's just have you patriots be the first to lose jobs, pay the extra money for holidays and goods and go to the back of the line for healthcare. Offer up a euro passport and just see how many brexiteers apply for them. What people like you have done is put people on the dole and made life harder for the rest. All for a nice blue passport - now made in the EU... and yes it will take decades to fix - Reesmogg mentioned 50. Fool Brittania.
