@gandhiindia1685 farmers starved, because the government took all their harvest and even seeds for next year, of course they took their cows and goats , they had to supply everything to the government, when requisites came, they even took bread from the oven. Peasants who had good farms were called culacks, they were sent from their homes deep in Sybiria with children, old people most perished there, they brought them into the step , where they had no housing no domestic animals , they just starved and died of hunger and cold

TEXOCMOTP we always had shortages , even before the break up of a country .very rarely we could buy toilet paper in the best of times, Our industry never even produced sanitary napkins for women . Tooth paste , shampoo , washing powder , all was hard to get. Not talking about meat In many cities milk you could get only for the children, and even then one had to get up very early in the morning, to stay in line in winter when it is - 25 , early in the morning it is still very dark and people stood silently to get milk for their children, so don’t tell me it was just after USSR collapsed.

@QuizmasterLaw True, my grandmother would say , my brother married before the 1918 famine, my daughter was born during the 1931 famine , and my sister came to live with us because there was hunger in the countryside, then of course the war years, where everything was rationed bread coupons were crucial , to lose ration card was a catastrophe, one just starved . Then she would say after the a famine of 1947 . I managed to buy myself my first dress after the war in the 60s huge lines for bread and flour. Just basics .
