I saw a facebook post the other day stating that eating out being more expensive was a plot to keep people stuck at home poor, buying expensive groceries and not getting paid to make their own food, and most of the comments were AGREEING and talking about these stories of saving money by only eating out...MAYBE in some real special cases, but it's hard to imagine with even the most basic cooking skill.

  2. It always amazes me seeing all these people who PROUDLY can't, don't, won't cook. Everyone I think I've ever known fell into one of two groups, people who can cook, and people who admire them because they can't cook. I've never, not once, had a single other human say "Oh, you can cook? Haha what a loser!". It's instead almost always interest, oh hey I like to cook too, what do you like to cook, and then you talk about food for, like, 20 years. I have friends like that, humans have bonded over food perhaps more than any other activity because we all have it in common. Cook or not you have to eat.

  4. Fast food store manager for several years. Yeah. You have to either brainlessly not think about it at all, and eat it, or not at all. Funny thing is I was always anti-tap water. Then I got a job running a municipal drinking water plant and saw the immense care and responsibility that goes into that product, far more than bottled, now I'm a big public water shill lol. ALL I drink from a bottle is Ice Mountain, nothing else, and I've tested them all thoroughly, this is not health advice.

  5. Part of the POWERFUL cultural bonding experience we've had as humans around food for thousands of years is in sourcing and preparing it. EVERYONE was invested in the meal you're sharing, and everyone knows it. I grew up on a farm, I've known the name of what I'm eating lol, I named them, and I did great, they're tasty. SOOOO much more goes into an EXPERIENCE if you go shopping for an upcoming meal together, choose stuff together, prepare it all and cook together, then eat together, it's so much better than just food appears, let's eat, ok now on to something else. Notice there's a lot of TOGETHER in there, because it matters.

A great meal you/partner/family/group agreed on, collected, prepared, cooked, and are now eating together, wow these (ingredient) in (dish) are a great choice, I'm glad we asked (person) what to get, it turned out great...hey (other person) where did you learn to cut these (thing) like this, I've never seen it before? What's the story with this wine, I like it...
