  2. Turkey is an important country, tiny balkan countries aren't. If Turks spit we will drown. Turkish military is very strong, you can come suddenly one night if we misbehave. Turkish economy is great, it's in G20, Greece is poor. Now it's the turkish century, Turkey is the leader of the islamic world. That's what the vast majority of Turks believe. On the other hand, Greeks even before independence, saw themselves as Europeans: they were influenced by the Enlightment, the French and American revolution.The very first Greek constitution was very liberal and democratic. We have some common foods and music with the ottomans (Turks think that the influence was one way: from Turks to Greeks) . Bottom line: we don't have common dreams, common goals, neither common mentality. Turks are more similar to Russian mentality, their anti-western rhetoric and dreams of re-capturing their old lands. If you strengthen relations and trade with Russia you'd be a powerhouse in the region.

I don't know what kind of "commodities" you, personally, share with Turks but I don't want to be governed by a Sultan, I don't believe that woman's position is in kitchen having lots of kids and I don't dream of ottoman empire and world domination of islam. I don't want to live in a collectivistic society where criticism against the Sultan leads even UNDERAGED KIDS in prison. If you share the same values with Turks, it's easy to get a one-way ticket and live your myth in neo-ottoman empire.   5. Did Greece ever threaten to invade? Because I really can't find any such public statement. Can you find any government member in Greece sayin in public that we'll change the borders, or posing next to an irredentist map? Because I can find such things in turkish government and no such thing in greek government. Maybe Turks can tolerate being constantly threatened by their president ,as he often does, but Europeans are really fed up with it. That's why when we talk about accepting new members in EU, Turkey is never considered an option. In my life I let people threaten or blackmail me once. I won't be there to be threatened a second time. I'll lock my doors and leave the barking dogs outside. There are lots of countries in the world who have a more stable attitude and not the constant : love you - i'll come suddenly one night - love you - my rockets will reach Athens - but I love you now. Greece and all our other neighbours never threatened to invade each other in my lifetime, no matter our differences. Maybe turkish approach is more appropriate for middle eastern diplomacy and anatolian bazaars.

  10. When I see Turks solve even ONE of their problems without force I might start to believe they have good intentions. They solved the Cyprus issue by invading. Ok, that's in the past. But this year, 2023 they attacked the peacekeeping forces. So, not so much "in the past" They solved the Syria issue by invading. That was somewhat recent, 2016 if I'm not mistaken. They are "solving" the Nagorno-karabakh issue by ethnic cleansing the defenceless armenians. Today, 2023. So, I guess we'll have to wait a century before Turks ever show any signs of "solving problems with diplomacy and not force" Even today they use "diplomacy" as means to wait until they find the right time to kill.

  11. I don't see anything in common with the turkish mentality. In my eyes it's Europe vs East. I choose EU any time. European countries acted together and I've seen huge improvement in my life. Europeans never threatened to invade me and they didn't even tell me that I'm "small and weak" as I've heard so many times from Turks. I'm content with what I have and I don't need to try different alliances. But since you agree that cooperation is very important, you have many other neighbours to try it: Syria, Armenia, Iraq, Iran. None of your soldiers was killed on Greek soil, but you have many "martyrs" in Syrian and Iraqi lands every other week. So you might need to start your friendship attempts with them.

Which is fundamentaly different than EU politics where it's (christians-nationalists) vs (leftists - progressives) That's why it seems that Europeans don't get you. Erdogan has managed to take by his side the nationalists in many aspects and that's why CHP can't win. By European standards CHP is basically far-right. And the reason for that mess is that Turks are "proud" and they will never admit that there is a problem, and they are pretty ok with not having basic human rights. When someone was accused for "insulting the sultan" for posting something extremely polite on international forum NO ONE was by his side. The "proud" Turks, even the ones living abroad were trying to come with exuses for Erdogan, to protect the turkish image. And that's even MORE fundamentaly opposite to souther Europe. During our dictatorships Greeks and Portugues were protesting against our regimes abroad, so that we would get attention and help from western democracies. Turks abroad are "turkey is such a nice country, come for holidays" Europeans aren't stupid, they know what's happening, the only thing that changes is that they consider the average Turk as a proud idiot without democratic values. And they are "oh such a nice country, so polite people" while in their head "for a middle eastern country, what they have is good enough". But Turks remain proud militaristic. I'm ok with Turkey being .. Turkey. But I don't want more proud turks in EU, posting how great turkish army is from.. Berlin!

Greeks were heavily influenced by the ideas of Enlightment, by the American revolution, the French revolution etc. They saw themselves as Europeans from day 1. Turks on the other hand, not at all. Except for only one person, the rest of Turks always saw themselves outside the western world and western values. Especially now that neo-ottomanism became prevalent. I know that you want to make it about battles, forgetting what you did, overdramatizing what others did to you etc. But bottom line is that there are totally different world views living next to each other. Of course it's going to be beef. It's better when some cultures don't mix, except for short holidays.

Greece has excellent relations with Bulgaria, and but they still wouldn't let Greek army in their country to conduct "operations", throw bombs and control passages inside Bulgaria. Erdogan is populist, but so is Aksener. And her promises were more like "lets get out of Syria, fix our problems with NATO and only target the greek islands" Many Greeks prefer Erdogan, because especially in his first terms he was the least militarist and nationalist turkish leader. Even EU liked him for that, he was like a breeze of fresh air compared to the previous chauvinists. He shifted to agression to get turkish votes, which for me says that the problem is much deeper. You know that your opinions are very unpopular in TR, and that makes every peacedul agreement very difficult, as there is always a possibility that Turks will pressure their government to shift to agression.

I checked the EEZ that Greece agreed with Italy, and I don't think that Italy was bullied to agree but Corfy had full EEZ. In general , you can find Greeks having all kinds of opinions, but Turks are really so set on their opinion, there is no reason to bother. 3. Of course there is no animocity between people.
