@ertanerbek The dislike (no hatred) against Ottoman empire is because it was a backwards society, similar to the Dark Ages, while the West was having the Enlightenment, the Renaissance, and progressed in Arts, Sciences etc. Pagan Rome is generally more liked because (in their time) they progressed scientifically and artistically. Generally the reason the Balkans are way behind their Central and Wester European nations is that they were under the Ottomans and missed opportunities for better education and progress. I can understand why they hate ottomans and especially the recent neo-ottoman dreams.

@ertanerbek They can be judged for what they take pride in, though. A German proud of Goethe isn't the same as a German proud of Hitler. Turks seem to be proud for the worse reasons, and that definitely affects how they see their role in today's world and where they want to go in the future.

Do you see any Irish Prime Minister saying to Bulgarian Prime Minister "tell your judges to issue this decision"? We have our differences, but we are on the same page on democracy, freedom of press, minorities, justice system. Turkey and Turks is a whole different planet on these issues. Because both Germans and Norwegians (5 million) are focused on the quality of their lives. Same applies to Malta (500 thousand people): no one laughs at them for being small. Bulgaria and Romania never created any problem in EU even though they are many years already. They are very co-operative, they sweethearts to talk over any EU issues and they are agreeable. Turkey isn't even close to gets accepted, creates all kinds of problems, blackmails all the time and TURKS HATE EU (except for the EU money) I can bet that you are a Turk, because no European has problems with Bulgaria and Romania. USA can be "pluralistic" but you need to APPLY FOR VISA to get there. They will search very hard before they accept you and they'll accept only the most talented from all over the world. Not every uneducated Turk from Erzurum, or Agri with no job skills and who can't even speak english can move to USA. You are asking for EU to open the borders to everyone and most importantly that TURKEY WOULD HAVE VETO. Try asking USA to give VETO rights to TUrkey and see if they will be "open" to the idea. We actually like progressive Turks, but they are a tiny minority. For example, Izmir could easily join EU, but the rest NO. And funny how some people perceive that not throwing your gay brother from the rooftop equals hate of family. I'd argue that forcing your sister to marry an old guy is hate of family. Also, not killing people when you feel offended doesn't mean you hate religion. But you will never understand. So just stay away from EU and be happy.

However none of these countries abused their veto rights in order to bargain for totally irrelevant issues. That's something that turks can't understand because their anatolian brains are wired to think that blackmailing is something clever. And that's exactly why they will NEVER EVER be allowed to join in a Union where many decisions every year require unanimity. If the EU will find itself is in a difficult situation, we know that Turkey won't help. Did you see any Europeans burning turkish flags and protesting violently (even killing people) as muslims often do? If no, it means that Europeans have learnt how to control themselves when they feel offended. 99.9% of Swedes don't like to burn books, they don't participate in these events. The real question is if the ones who burn THEIR OWN books should be sent to prison. And all Europeans say that NO and this is non negotiable. If someone feels offended, he must not come to Europe. Next time he should travel to Saudi Arabia or Pakistan where blasphemy is punishable by death. They will feel more friendly and at home there. Do we go around insulting our presidents? Few people do, but those who insult our presidents DON'T GO TO PRISON. That's also non negotiable and Presidents who are easily offended should avoid Europe at all cost. So maybe you don't want to communicate with Sweden and you need closer cooperation with the islamic world. You can party in churches together or burn infidels or whatever your current hobbies are.
