Just imagine. If Jeremy Corbyn had become Prime Minister, Diane Abbott would have been Home Secretary. Perhaps the most inspired appointment since the Emperor Caligula made his horse a Consul?

@rdrury15 Isn't it interesting how people who don't have any real arguments resort to insults instead? Thank you for confirming this. As Diane has never held any position of responsibility, how can you assess her competence in any case?

@alexedwards6509 A Front Bench MP, and a member of a Shadow Government. Very good. Explain how either position allows the incumbent to make any actual decisions? Simply shouting at those who do make decisions is not by any stretch of the imagination a position of responsibility.

@alexedwards6509 I suspect that I have a far greater understanding of what 'responsibility' really is than you do. If Shadow Governments prepare for governance, and Ms. Abbott was responsible for preparing policies, perhaps that explains how Labour, in 2019, demonstrated itself to be utterly unelectable?

@puckinhell622 Please enlighten me by telling me when I compared Abbott to Patel & Braverman. No, Shadow Home Secretary is not a position of responsibility. What actual decisions do shadow ministers ever make which affect in the slightest the state of the nation?

@alexedwards6509 I will ignore the insult at the end of your post, but will simply comment upon your own understanding, as you have incorrectly used the word 'governance.' Governance is the system that provides a framework for managing organisations. It identifies who can make decisions, who has the authority to act on behalf of the organisation and who is accountable for how an organisation and its people behave and perform. I refer you to Harold Wilson's book, 'The Governance of Britain' which dealt with the actual management of government, not the preparation for government. The word you should have used, of course, was 'government'. It therefore seems that I understand words rather better than you do, mon vieux. I won't comment further, but will simply refer you to Abbott's error-ridden political career, which, thankfully, never resulted in high office, or anything approaching it.
