I wonder how many of the good burghers of North Shropshire are really enthusiastic about the LibDem's 'Come one come all' policy on immigration, or, as a constituency which voted 60% in favour of brexit, their enthusiastic policy of 'Please let us re-join, under any terms you wish to impose?' In short, a classic protest vote, resembling those going back as far as Dick Taverne in 1972. I would place a substantial bet that this constituency will be a Tory one after the next General Election, when those people who chose not to vote yesterday turn out again. In reality (not a word I use often when referring to politicians) the immediate effect ought to be that of forcing the Conservatives to sort themselves out. Whether under Johnson or someone else, of course, remains to be seen.
