@reserva120 So, in your view the Nelsons, with 9 x 16 inch guns, 14 inch belts, and 6.25 inch deck armour, had less armour and smaller guns. Compared to what, exactly?

Which fast carriers would they have been in 1925? When the Nelsons were built, they were the fastest battleships in the world, the best armoured, and the best armed. Certainly, they weren't as fast as battleships built ten years later, but that's progress for you.

She is a Dromedary Class Paddle Tug. Nine were built between 1894 & 1902, and five were still in use into the 1950s. One, Industrious, survived until 1959.

But also disturbingly unstable at sea.

Why would you want to scrap two fully effective battleships, when there were already four twin 15 inch gun barbettes in store from Courageous & Glorious, which could be (and were) modernised and fitted to Vanguard?

Built within the limitations of the Washington treaty. The layout meant the smallest possible area (therefore the lightest possible weight ) for the all-or-nothing armour. As to joke of a ship class, tell that to the crew of the Bismarck.

No so. The 35000 ton limit was agreed by the Washington Naval Treaty, which gave the RN special dispensation to build two 16 inch gunned battleships, but within the tonnage limitation.

Easy way to tell. Look at the AA directors on the tower above the bridge. Nelson had two directors, whereas Rodney only had one. It became easier to differentiate the pair once camouflage was applied.

I imagine the survivors from Bismarck would have been able to answer this question.

No. She was Nelson's sister ship.

@javiergilvidal1558 The reality is that, after WW1, Britain simply could not afford to indulge in a vastly expensive naval race.

It meant that a battleship could be built that, with heavier armour and broadside than those of any other navy, could be built within the 35,000 ton limit of the Washington naval treaty, and still make 23 knots when the accepted speed for a battle fleet was 21.

No. Nelson was at Freetown. Rodney was part of the chase.
