@stanleyrogouski The Graf Spee wasn't a battlecruiser, her armour barely compared to that of a County class cruiser.

@stanleyrogouski Spee had a belt of 2.4 to 3.1 inches, deck armour of 1.6 t 1.8 inches, and a speed of 26 knots. Tiger had a belt of 9 inches, decks of 2.5 inches, and a speed of 29 knots. I believe that Tiger, and the Lions, outmatched Spee. Even the Invincibles and Indefatigables had 6 inch belts and 2.5 inch decks, but might, with their 25 knots. have struggled to bring her to battle.

@kemarisite Eric Grove ('The Chase and Destruction of the Graf Spee' written in 2013, states that Spee had expended around two thirds of her 11 inch ammunition in the action. 414 rounds, or 70% of her total stock of 100 rounds per gun.

It is. I obtained a copy of it about three years ago. Highly recommended.

@stanleyrogouski Quite possibly. As it was, Spee had expended around two thirds of her ammunition in the action against the three cruisers. Assuming that four had been present, Langsdorff would have had difficult decisions to make regarding how to use his main guns.

@stanleyrogouski From what i have read, the Deutschlands were conceived, by the Weimar Republic, as a means of intercepting French troops convoys in the event of war between France (or France & Poland) against Germany.

@spirz4557 Alas, not to my knowledge. My copy came from the British Film Institute.
