@ozsteamer2755 I believe that the remark was attributed to General Weygand. Churchill added the 'some chicken, some neck' when speaking to the Canadian House of Commons on 30 December, 1941.

@Farmer-bh3cg 'Cheap & Nasty was certainly a term applied to the Flowers, as you describe. They were based on a pre-war whaler, the 'Southern Pride.'

@ozsteamer2755 It was actually a reference to another class of ship, the Flower class corvettes, built in large numbers in Britain & Canada. They could be built in small yards, and had reciprocating engines which were more familiar to the RNR engineers who would operate them. It was actually a compliment, in that they were Cheap to build, and Nasty to U-boats.
