  1. I have one of my old cricket bats (a Gunn & Moore Maestro, cracked years ago when I, for once, managed to middle one of my shots) by the door. I wonder if this intellectual giant would have thought it quite such a prank if I had used it on him had he entered my house. I would, of course, have rolled my wrists first, to keep the shot down. I wouldn't, of course, have used a new bat. Far too expensive to replace!
