  1. I appreciate the sentiment guys, but my life got pretty ugly during my teens, without any focus or ambition to motivate me. So there was no real opportunity to mend the damage. That was now a long time ago. I am in my 50's now, and no way I could ever rekindle that dream. If I am to ever make something of myself that I could look back upon with some pride, it will have to be something else. The point was just to re-emphasize Sir Robinson's point, don't tread on dreams.

  2. At the age of 12, I had my open water scuba certification, was working on my pilot's license and taking extracurricular math classes, all to fulfill my dream of being an astronaut. Then a guidance councilor spent a full hour convincing me that my dream was stupid, infantile, and that I should be more practical. As if someone who doesn't quite make orbit, would be a failure... He managed to destroy my dream, and left me nothing. I stopped my extracurriculars and have achieved little in life.
