  2.  @zcoppleman7230  I think you mistake the CDU with the Parlament. You must differentiate between what the Parlament does and what the CDU stands for. For example homosexual marriage happened when the CDU was in the government, yes. But the whole party including Merkel was against it. It was the SPD and opposition who pushed for it. So just because some things happened during Merkels terms doesn't mean that she or her party wanted it. Almost everything the party stands for and did is conservative.
