  4. They don't. Mostly because they are not "sit down money" programs. In most western nations, you have something called mutual obligation. You have to do certain things, look for work, take any appropriate work if and when it is available, that kind of thing, and once they DO get work, they like it when they have money, so they actually look for more work. I know, I have lived it.

What most progressives want is more balance between great wealth and making sure the poor have enough to get by and get ahead. There is no dichotomy, no one-or-the-other, no all or nothing.
