@Clausfarre what about the jews? the Hindus? the Buddhists? The Christians?
1
@megamarsvin There is the problem. They fall between those two statuses, and therefore, those who capture them can do whatever the fuck they want... Or that is their reasoning anyway.
1
@franksnow79 So Timothy McVeigh was a "rebel"?
1
@DriveThruOnly Actually, it protects the innocent... All these measures are in there to stop people being framed, wrongly accused, or imprisoned by mistake or because of sheer laziness. Without these protection, the police and authorities would be able to simply arrest your ass for whatever reason they feel like, for example, if a corrupt official thought you were getting too close.
1
@justonemorename So basically, just the ones who were assassinated. \ And what makes you think that the Zionists are enslaving anybody?
1
@frictionRx5 You would rather the terrorists had 50 mm sniper rifles, of the kind that could take out a 747?
1
@franksnow79 That is the ONLY purpose for that amendment that was listed. Not "for self defence" or "to protect private property"... ***A well regulated Militia***, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. It is abundantly clear that the intention was for a militia, particularly at a time when the US did not have a standing army or police force.
1
@justonemorename So who, in your opinion, is a real republican, and ont just in name only?
1
@SergeiFragov That depends on how you define "rights", and how are they discerned from priveleges. Is owning a gun a right or a previlige? Is driving a right or a privilege? Is free speech a right or a privelege? The surest way to erode away your rights is to abuse them so much as to harm the populace at large.
1
@sirfith The Hutaree were planning to kill police officers, first by killing one, then bombing the funeral. They were trying to acquire the explosives, and were planning on a place to do it. The easiest way to get your own rights eliminated is to abuse them, and the Hutaree were certainly abusing their rights.
1
@frictionRx5 We both know that potential terrorists are not rounded up immediately, but are watched for a while first (just like most organised criminals) in order to round up as much of their organisations in one fell swoop, taking as many of the terrorist cell as possible. Personally, I think that such weapons should be forbidden to all except those who have legitimate legal reasons to use them. So I am not really a hypocrite am I?
1
They want to get rid of their rights because these people are generally poor people. And if their side will take away the rights of THEM, THEIR side will take away the rights of YOU. This is the reason behind the Geneva Convention, and even the Nazis held by the Geneva Convention. If prisoners lose their rights, then anybody can lose their rights if and when they are accused of wrongdoing.
1
@megamarsvin Which was dangerous with Cheney in charge, but could be outright disasterous if somebody like G.Gordon Liddy or Oliver North got into power.
1
@Georgiapeach770 The problem is, if say one of his friends or relatives was picked up, and they are not involved, THEIR rights are being violated. It is to protect the innocent, protect the victims or potential victims... Because if they get off on a technicality, or if an innocent man is imprisoned, then there will be hell to pay.
1
@frictionRx5 They are on a watchlist. They compiled this list over the years, looking at people who were known members of organisations promoting terrorism, notably islamic terrorism, those who leave threatening messages, etc. They are not just guessing here...
1
@DarkEyedBlues The Far Right are using 1984 and Animal Farm as required reading... Unfortunately, it is more of a guidebook than a cautionary tale.
1
@jimbrown257 It's worse than that, if they loosen the definition of war zone and enemy combatant, then they can make certain prisoners fall into the dark zone between enemy combatant and terrorist or criminal, and they can do all sorts of crap to them.
1
@franksnow79 ... that means that the police in that region have to rethink their strategy. Obviously cracking down on these people is not working.
1
@WolverineDeus ... and had his rights been read to him, there would never have been a problem, he would have gotten a fair trial, and been convicted. Because the retrial shows he actually did do the crime he was convicted of.
1
@Georgiapeach770 Because it is highly possible that the person who gets accused is NOT actually seeking the destruction of ANYBODY. A large number of those in Gitmo were not even members of terrorist groups. Keeping by the rules means that all care is taken to make sure that the innocent are not deprived of their rights, and justice is seen to be done.
1
@ThereIsCake .. reading a few words, making sure they know their rights, making sure they are not coerced into making false confessions, making sure their fingernails are not pulled out, you know, treating them lawfully.
1
@2PaperTigers There is a shit load of regulations in some places, but some places it is very very simple, just go to a gun show. It depends on which state you are in.
1
@audadvnc They don't need the CIA to get weaponry... All they need to do is go to one of those gun shows.
1
@Neuromancer1970 The shoebomber? same thing. Miranda rights as soon as the plane landed.
1
@Yfelsung They always forget the first part of the 2nd Amendment, the bit about there being a well regulated militia, a well regulated militia being very necessary for a 13 state USA surrounded by Spanish, British and French colonies and numerous warring native tribes, but without a standing army.
1
@justonemorename I give up... How many times have jews attacked the united states?
1
@WolverineDeus Ah, so once... during the 1967 war. You know go back in time you will find practically all nations have attacked the US in one way or another... Even the Canadians have burned down the White House.
1
@sirfith He did not say that at all.
1
@jstutz2003 No, not quite. The fascists at least had a coherent idaeology.
1
@Neuromancer1970 Yep, noncitizens have rights too. If you are a tourist from Europe or something, and you are in New York and get accused of theft and arrested, then you have the same rights, it is part of judicial procedure, designed to protect the innocent and the victims of crime.
1
@audadvnc They look for more than your name on a list. They look for physical indicators, like nervousness, they look for the presence of any kind of weapon, there are a lot of indicators that can show them whether you are the guy to watch out for.
1
@frictionRx5 Planning to commit a terrorist attack is a crime.
