  3. Oil is also a massive consideration. Phosphate fertiliser is made from oil. So as oil becomes more expensive, so will fertiliser. We have to limit our population NOW, or otherwise, when the time of "peak food" comes, warfare and starvation will do it FOR US, and the result will be land so damaged as to make it much harder to sustain ANY kind of decent population at all.

  4. my mistake, there are some kinds of fertiliser that use saltpeter and other such minerals, the Haber process, however uses hydrogen from methane and natural gas. Either way, fertilisers are used to put nitrogen into nitrogen depleted soils, and once the minerals such as saltpeter are gone, the Haber process will be even more necessary.
